So I didn't get to do reccs last week, or really this week as they should have been posted yesterday, but SHIT WAS HAPPENING.

Also Big Bang for Avengers was sometime in the recent past and those things are long, so I am behind. But I do have a few reccs I want to share; this week's theme is "Tropes that usually fail to be decent fanfic but in this case totally rocked, job well done." It's all Avengers fic.

Mission Reports by raiining -- This is an amazing metacommentary on fandom disguised as a fanfic about how Phil Coulson interacts with the world at large and superheroes in particular. Coulson collects Captain America cards, but since Hawkeye doesn't have collector's cards, he collects mission reports instead (which he sometimes sorts by coolness factor). Funny and sweet. Clint/Coulson, Teen and Up.

Artificial Intelligence by kyaticlikestea -- The sentient gadgets that surround Tony Stark are conspiring to bring him and Steve Rogers together. This is usually such a terrible trope, but this one handily beat the odds. It's hilarious, especially Tony's reactions to the various talking machines. Steve/Tony, General Audiences.

Let Them Call It Mischief by infiniteeight -- Tony taunts Loki into casting a spell that gives the Avengers animal characteristics. I think this works where others fail because it focuses on the various emotional difficulties the Avengers have with their semi-transformation. It's a study of characters and networked relationships, and the transformations are there to facilitate that. Clint/Coulson, Explicit.

99 Problems (and the dice ain't one) by kellifer_fic -- an AU where the Avengers are D&D geeks, some of whom are having trouble adjusting to the fact that Steve just came back from his out of town internship about a foot taller and significantly more ripped and he dragged these two guys Bucky and Thor along with him. It's funny, and one of those stories where the sheer pining of the characters hits you right in the gut. Plus it's a Big Bang, so there's great art to go along with. Steve/Tony, Clint/Coulson, and Bruce/Darcy, Teen and up.
My current NaNo wordcount is 6666. Now I'm afraid to keep writing.

SO I AM GOING TO MAKE SOME AWESOME SOUP. Except with almond butter instead of peanut butter.

First line: "Hey," I said, leaning in for a hug, then stepping back against the wall opposite him, shoving my hands in my pockets. "So, this is a thing. How are you doing?"

Last line: I went upstairs, well aware that she'd already taken the silver and probably wouldn't start hauling furniture out yet if only because showing up to a funeral with the deceased's living room in the back of your car is inappropriate by any standard.

Favourite line: She took in my t-shirt, my pajama bottoms, and my wild hair, and gave me a mean smile. "Well, I see you're ready to go," she said.
