Good morning all, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!

As a reminder -- please try, if you are able, to post RFM requests before Sunday night; depending on where you are, I am asleep in my bed and may not get them in time to add on Monday morning (also adding stuff on Monday morning is kind of a pain). Thanks guys!

Ways To Give:

[livejournal.com profile] bluebombardier is knitting a TARDIS for [livejournal.com profile] fandomaid. Bidding starts at $50, with a matching donation from [livejournal.com profile] bluebombardier, and bidding closes on the 29th.

[livejournal.com profile] taerowyn is also auctioning at [livejournal.com profile] fandomaid, offering a set of nine stenciled canvas wall panels featuring customizable fandom images. Bidding is currently at $30.

[livejournal.com profile] starspiritgate linked to Far Lands Or Bust, a fundraiser for Child's Play charity. The "goal" is to reach the Far Lands, a glitch in Minecraft where if you walk twelve million metres from the starting point, the world gets stretchy and distorted. This would take decades of real-time, so apparently it's mostly a spoof of walkathons. I have to admit I don't understand how this works, but presumably gamers will, and Child's Play does good work.

[personal profile] cluegirl has a very sick cat, Godric, and is raising money at indiegogo to cover some of the $2K in unexpected vet bills getting Godric better.

[livejournal.com profile] plot_h0les recently took in two abandoned cats and is trying to rehome them, but can't unless they've had their shots and spay/neuter, and the shelters at the moment are full with waiting lists. There's an indiegogo up to get vet visits and supplies for the kitties so Gwen and Johnny can eventually find a forever home.

[personal profile] subluxate linked to [livejournal.com profile] naamah_darling, who is looking for a forever home for a ten month old cat named Bruce.

Help For Free:

[livejournal.com profile] kallaneboi linked to a page collecting "granny squares" to make blankets to be raffled off as a benefit for the survivors of Hurricane Sandy in Rhode Island. Blankets will be raffled off in December so the deadline for these squares is December 1st.

[livejournal.com profile] maeritrae linked to a petition asking for the European Union to standardize its treatment of same-sex families as families throughout Europe.

Ailelie linked this week to a charity I've long been fond of, Modest Needs, which helps people in need, particularly low-income workers, with short-term emergency expenses.

Just For Fun:

Riptide Press, which is publishing my novella The City War (more on that tomorrow) has attached a contest to the collection The City War belongs to! If you preorder any title in the Warriors Of Rome collection between now and the 25th, you'll be entered to win a Nook Simple Touch. Each purchase gets an entry, and if you preorder the full set you'll receive a bonus entry; in addition, preordering the full set saves you 20% off the price as a whole.

[livejournal.com profile] gaaak linked to a cool interactive "painting" website, Silk. I ended up making a terrifying skull my first time out...

[livejournal.com profile] soul_cake_duck linked to a fun video about folding hexaflexagons.

And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!). Remember, brevity is the soul of RFM.
SO GUYS. I wrote this novella called The City War.

Riptide Press is publishing it as both an ebook and paperback (as a paperback it comes combined with another novella in the Warriors Of Rome series); the ebook comes out November 19th, but you can preorder it any time. As part of the promotional lead-up to the opening sale day, I'll be posting excerpts from the novella all week.

These pick up where the excerpt on the sales page leaves off, and over the course of the week will compose an entire scene from the story. A SEXY SCENE.

Here's today's.

To my dear brother, Marcus Brutus: I send you all the best greetings... )
A while back [livejournal.com profile] droolfangirl suggested a book to me about the history of science fiction, linking to a review on tor.com.

The review was of the book "The Way The Future Was" by Frederik Pohl, but somehow I got the headline of the article mixed up with a book. Which is why it has been very hard for me to find, because I kept searching for "A Charming History of Science Fiction And Fandom".

I kind of want to write it now. Or at any rate, I want to write A Charming History of something. Not too many things have charming histories, however...
One haircut.

Two buses.

Three trains.

Four errands.

Home by five.

NAILED IT.

BTW if you are in Chicago, you should check out the exhibit at the Rotofugi gallery right now. It's awesome, all skeletons and masks and owls, and Rotofugi's a fun store.

CHRISTMAS, I HAVE SHOPPED U.
