Good morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!

Ways To Give:

Sarah, a longtime Cafe member, is having some financial difficulties related to moving, a job (or three) being pulled out from under her, and has medication she needs to pay for. She makes jewelery, crocheted goods, and paper crafts; her site is here, and it's a good way to both support someone in need and get cool stuff!

[livejournal.com profile] deepfishy reminded me to let you all know that last week's Hawkeye, #7, is a fundraiser: Matt Fraction, the writer (and a truly stand-up awesome guy) is donating all of his royalties from the issue to Hurricane Sandy relief.

Ashley linked me to a new literary journal holding a one-time fundraiser for their inaugural issue and operating costs. The journal celebrates contemporary American women of the south; you can find Belle Journal here and the kickstarter page is here.

News To Know:

This past week I got into a dicussion on Tumblr about comic shops that are friendly, or hostile, to women. The end result was that [livejournal.com profile] polarisnorth built HaterFreeWednesdays, a resource for reviews and requests about female, queer, and PoC-friendly comic book stores.

Relatedly, [personal profile] iamshadow linked me to a great essay by Chaka Cumberbatch: I'm A Black Female Cosplayer And Some People Hate It. (There are also lots of cool cosplay pictures!)

[livejournal.com profile] kit_maxel linked me to the story that's been breaking all week about Richard III being found. I like this article because of all the hilarious details, like the second DNA donor who "wished to remain anonymous."

Just For Fun:

I am totally embarrassed not to know this, but I was not always good at tracking this kind of thing. Heather was wondering if there were any podfics of stories in the Stealing Harry 'verse aside from the main Stealing Harry; if you know a link or have one you're willing to share, drop a comment and let me know!

[personal profile] tealin linked me to a fantastic page of strange and marvelous maps assembled by darkroastedblend.

[livejournal.com profile] taerowyn linked me to an AWESOME SITE OF HILARIOUS ANIMALS: WTFEvolution.

And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!).
Hey all, I should have added this to the RFM post but didn't think of it -- I will not be doing Radio Free Monday next week, as I'm traveling this week (corporate retreat woo) and won't have time/materials to properly prep one.

SO! If you have RFMs this week, please save them for Monday, and I'll make a "RFM free for all" post where you can put them in comments.

Also, if you have an emergency RFM this coming week, be aware that I may not be the best place to go to get it publicised, as I will not have regular access to email throughout the day.
Last week, due to IMPENDING LIBRARY DEADLINES, I finally managed to finish a book: The Mark Inside, by Amy Reading. It purports to be the account of a man who got conned out of a fortune and ended up chasing down the men who conned him and conning them back, but it's a bit more than that.

The Mark Inside by Amy Reading )

Final Verdict: Books about con men are usually fun; you feel sympathy for their marks, but at the same time they are by design funny, charming individuals with adventuresome stories. On a spectrum from "Adventure Novel" to "Economics Textbook", The Mark Inside falls just slightly towards Economics Textbook, but not enough to stop it from being a really enjoyable read.
