(no subject)
Mar. 28th, 2013 12:04 pmI'm working on research today inspired by an article on CEO salaries. Two of the CEOs who came up together were Douglas Tough, of International Flavors and Fragrances, followed by Patti Hart, of International Game Technology.
Tough & Hart, the perfumier and the gamer. I'm pretty sure they're either the best Bond villain duo ever, or they should have some kind of crime procedural on basic cable. (Tough, naturally, is the squeamish one. Hart is the badass.)
Meanwhile, a job description I was reading today listed one of the responsibilities as "[corporate double speak here] in order to win business."
WIN ALL THE BUSINESS!
I have begun applying for jobs I am in no way qualified for, but I figure, you know, you'll never hit the ball if you don't take a swing. And so much of job-hunting is so very subjective. I don't think I'm qualified to be a Senior Research Analyst, but maybe I am qualified to be a Senior Research Analyst if I'm in a three-person shop at a small organisation, because I'm currently a junior half-Research Analyst at an enormous shop with a large, wealthy organisation which is using tools smaller shops have neither the time nor the money for. My experience here is not the same as it would be other places.
Some of these jobsites though, I swear to God, you're already pre-screened if you just manage to figure out how the hell to find the jobs you want and apply to them. DEAR JOBS WEBSITE: YOU COULD TRY TO BE LESS INTUITIVE BUT YOU WOULD NOT SUCCEED.
