Well, I'm off to jury duty. Really, I'm not well-qualified for it; I try not to judge people. :D

I am bringing the kind of survivalist kit I normally reserve for a weekend trip. Being fair, I'm rarely in a situation like this where my movements are limited, and I have no guarantee of what I'll find. Chicago is a bit sketchy on the amenities of their criminal courthouse.

I know they do not have internet in the courtroom, however, so this may be the last you see of me until this evening. We who are about to sit in judgement salute you!

Well the FAQ said phones are okay but this building is plastered in no-phone signs, so if you all don't hear from me I either had to check my phone or got in trouble for arguing with the evangelist behind me in line...

WELL. THAT WAS ENTERTAINING I GUESS.

I am home from selection. Hooray things I don't actually have to do. I sat at a table near a window for six hours and watched documentaries and read comic books, and then they gave me a check and told me I could go. So I went. Hurriedly.

I will say that, rather like trains, a room full of strangers without internet or much to do is almost a relief. I didn't even bother worrying about work or socialising because there was literally nothing to be done. Mind you, trains have better snacks, but they also don't pay you seventeen dollars to sit around not worrying about things.

At any rate, it's done now. Normally I'd be rather disappointed I wasn't called, but I was worried that if I was, I'd be there for a week or two, and Mum is coming in week after next. Plus the damn courthouse is about an hour and a half from here by train-plus-bus.

I did get a tamale for lunch. That was nice.
