Good morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!

Ways to Give:

[livejournal.com profile] lavinialavender linked to a post for [livejournal.com profile] whereupon, who is facing impending homelessness along with her St. Bernard. You can find more info and a paypal donation address here.

[personal profile] madripoor_rose linked to an article about the troubles that Barnes & Noble is in at the moment. I'm always in favour of supporting indy bookstores over big chains, but I'm also in favour of Fuck Amazon, and B&N is one of Amazon's only major competitors. She recommends, as I do, that if you're considering buying books or book-related materials at Amazon, check B&N before you do.

Fannish News:

[livejournal.com profile] heidi8 invites everyone attending SDCC to attend the Harry Potter panel as one of the last panels of the con!

[personal profile] holli wants to let folks know that they have five different mini-fanzines available for download, and paper copies will be available for a few bucks after July 20.

Networking:

[livejournal.com profile] golden_d's Philadelphia university office is hiring a full-time administrative assistant/receptionist, and they wanted to let everyone know that interested parties can PM for more details.

[personal profile] kaytee4ever is looking for a roommate for their rental house in North Irving/Los Colinas, Texas. There is one bedroom and a small office/den available; details and a pic of the house are at the link.

Housecleaning:

One or two reminders, since it's a short post this week --

Pronouns: I don't often know your preferred pronoun (my memory for that kind of thing is shit) and I don't assume based on the ostensible gender of your username or icon as that has failed me in the past. So if you don't want to be a "they", let me know know what pronoun to use. If you're fine being a "they", that's fine too :D

Timing: I know this isn't always an option, but please try not to post stuff for RFM at 2am on Monday. :D I can't guarantee I'll see it, and sometimes if LJ is squirrelly I can't actually see your post to get the info I need. Again, do it if you have to! Just...try not to wait, if you can. Seize the moment!

And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!).

So, I realised a few months ago that I did not own a potato masher, and while I'm not much one for unitaskers (thanks Alton Brown for my childhood indoctrination) there's nothing that really properly replaces a good potato masher. Don't even talk to me about forks, and the experiment with the immersion blender went very poorly.

Mum said she'd buy me one, and I'm never one to turn down a free kitchen tool, so I said okay. She ended up buying me a ricer instead, which does at least have a few other uses, but because of its general shape I was expecting something rather small, like an upgrade from a garlic press. Instead, I am now the proud owner of the GIANT POTATO RICER.

I am gonna rice all the fuckin' potatoes tonight.

In the meantime, have some Monday Fanfic. Which really should be titled "The Worst Idea Ever No Really".

Oh my god, it's so hot. I may die. I am as close as possible to the air conditioner without cuddling it. I smell like a gym sock. I FEEL like a gym sock.

I've been meaning to try this new dish I came up with, a variant on my crock-pot spaghetti where I layer spaghetti noodles (uncooked) with bolognese sauce and leave them in the crock pot until the noodles get soft and I get hungry. This time I thought I would try frozen cheese ravioli. And as I was layering...

Me: Well, this is like lasagne. Pasta, cheese, sauce, in layers.
Me: Very lazy lasagne.
Me: LAZEAGNE.

It's a good thing I amuse myself. If I do die of Too Fucking Hot, I'll go out punning.
