Jul. 22nd, 2013 08:35 amGood morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!
Ways To Give:
justice_turtle needs help paying a student loan bill by this Friday. He's selling DRM-free PDF knitting/crochet patterns for $1, $5, and $10; he is also accepting donations. Information on the patterns and his PayPal e-mail address is posted here. (The mesh backpack pattern looks awesome.)
sahiya volunteers with the Stanford Cat Network, which does Trap/Neuter/Release and feeding for the stray cats on the Stanford campus (and also the cats that people dump on the campus). Last week their shelter caught fire, which is a huge financial strain on the SCN. You can read more about the work they do here and donate to support the SCN here.
storynerd101 let me know that a group of students from their school are cycling from Canterbury in south-east England to Monte Carlo in Monaco, more than 1000 miles, and are hoping to do it in 12 days. They're raising money for Great Ormond Street hospital in London. You can read more about the ride and find donation information here.
Events:
Marie has a spare ticket for a midnight matinee of The Tempest at The Globe Theatre in London on August 9th. Actors include Colin Morgan and Roger Allam, and she's looking for someone to go with her: "Would be fun to go with someone eager to enjoy it, all I ask in return is good company, and possibly a drink ;-)" It is a standing ticket, so requires standing up for probably four to five hours total during the performance. People can check the website of The Globe theatre for more details and get in touch with Marie at fenchurch dot odense at gmail dot com.
Housing!
adrian_turtle is looking for someone to share an apartment in Somerville, MA. They're subletting a bedroom and study in a pet-free, smoke/alcohol-free, queer/poly/kink friendly apartment; there are more details here.
jjhunter and
stultiloquentia are still looking for one to two more people to join them and three others in starting a small co-op of artists and academics in Somerville, MA. Occupancy available now; contact J.J. via jjhunter24 at gmail for more details.
Just For Fun:
grey_bard let me know that the free print-it-yourself Marvel comics fanzine that solicited contributions here a few months ago has gone live. It has downloadable ebook and print-and-staple versions here. There are also other free zines in the project including Doctor Who, Discworld, and Les Mis zines here.
mycatsellsclues linked to an article about Geek Bar Chicago, a nerd-themed gastropub set to open next year. They're looking for funding, investors, contacts, and supporters. Check it out!
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!).
