Aug. 19th, 2013 08:15 amGood morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!
Ways To Give:
seventh_sister linked to a GoFundMe for the owners of Bob, a rescue dog who was hit by a car and has some fairly extensive vet bills just from the x-rays and pain meds. You can read more about Bob and his owners here.
neekabe linked to Cycling For Canada, a one-man bicycle trip across Canada to raise money for ten different charities, one per province, including women's shelters, food banks, transportation assistance and programs for youth and immigrants. You can read more or donate at the website here.
Ang linked to the ELLIOT Rescue & Fostering Sanctuary, a small no-kill animal rescue organisation in Kentucky, which runs almost totally on donations. You can give at their ongoing fundraising drive here. They are not currently recognised as a not-for-profit (apparently they are in the application process) but are state licensed.
Buy Stuff, Help Out:
kath_ballantyne and
iamshadow have had a lot of unexpected expenses lately, mainly to d with health coverage, and have put up a post about both their existing Etsy page and their willingness to take commissions for handmade items of various kinds (needle-felting, knitting, embroidery, and digital paintings).
adelheide has lost her job and needs to replace the brakes on her car, which is often a necessary part of job-hunting. She has a post up here with links to jewelery she is selling, including items for people with specific metal sensitivities. There are links also to her Etsy store, and an explanation of bonuses you can redeem for purchases and referrals.
nutmeg3 linked to
canineatheart, who takes in dogs who need homes, socializes and trains them as needed, and then finds forever homes for them. To fund her efforts she sells custom pet portraits at her Etsy shop, and this month ahs a 35% off discount with the code AUG35.
Housing And Networking:
tealin's sister and her husband are looking for a cat-friendly apartment in the California Bay Area, either in the city or somewhere close to Bart in the East Bay. She assures me that the cat in question can be certified as being The Best Cat Ever. You can read more about what their looking for and find contact information here at LJ or here at DW.
caffeinekitty linked to a for-real job that Wattpad is hiring for in Canada: Fan Fiction Engagement Manager.
Just For Fun:
Daroos would like to let midwestern fans known to "save the date" for the fall session of Midwest Fandom Congress, an informal get together for anyone who is in fandom in the midwest and wants to hang out. It will be held in Chicago October 4th, 5th and 6th. Main festivities will be on the 5th and include comic shop meetup during the day, dinner out, and movies at an apartment north of the loop. Contact daroos at gmail or daroos on tumblr to RSVP for dinner, or follow "#midwest fandom congress" on tumblr for updates.
tealin wants to remind everyone that The Independent Shakespeare Company is performing in LA for free through the end of August; you can view their schedule here. Performances are Thursday through Sunday at 7pm at The Old Zoo at Griffith Park. Audience members are advised to get there before 6 for good seats, and bring something warm for when it gets chilly.
Niseryjna linked to The TARDIS On Googlemaps, a little streetview easter egg. Sadly you can't actually explore the TARDIS, I assume since its geography is in a state of constant flux, but it's still a fun little feature.
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!).
