Aug. 28th, 2013 11:04 amI AM MAKING A SPREADSHEET.
At the end of this week, I shift from "job searching" (btw the Jesuits job interview went less than well, but mainly because the job they're hiring for is not the job they advertised, what the hell) to "apartment hunting". This may become complex, as I am not sure if I'm apartment hunting for myself or for myself and R. Two different situations requiring somewhat different criteria, especially since his expectations of what rent will cost are somewhat...lower than they ought to be. Also he has a car, which requires parking, and a dog, which requires finesse.
But I am making a spreadsheet, a spreadsheet to fill out whenever I visit an apartment so I don't forget stuff. It involves lists of stuff I need, stuff I want, and stuff that would be a luxury I probably cannot afford.
So.
NEED: Close to public transit; has cellphone reception (yes this is something you have to check in Chicago); First floor or elevator access (for my parents); easy access to a clean, decent laundry room or insuite laundry; lots of counter space.
There is one element that falls somewhere between NEED and WANT, which is a dishwasher. Mainly so my mother will SHUT THE HELL UP about how I don't have a dishwasher.
WANT: A location to which PeaPod delivers; central air conditioning; a balcony. (This last one is not as unlikely as it may seem; most places in Chicago at least have a door-accessible fire escape.)
LUXURIES: A fireplace; high ceilings.
I am open to suggestions for other stuff I should put on my list, within reason. I mean, at this point a dining room would also be an unspeakable luxury, but I don't actually need one or suffer the delusion I will ever have one.
