One of the things I wanted to get back into this year, aside from "writing things I don't give up on after two thousand words", was posting more on my professional website, Extribulum. And I have more or less succeeded! I usually post twice a week and I've had some decent readership there.

But that also means I'm in the back-end of the site more often, fiddling around with queued posts and checking my stats.

I've noticed that my number one article isn't the Firefly takedown or the YA analysis, but rather the article I did about horror called How To Be A Creepypasta. Which is weird, because you'd think people with an interest in creepypasta would just go to the creepypasta wiki or something.

So I checked my hit sources -- ie, where people were coming from, what google search got them to my page -- and literally, week in and week out, there are dozens of hits to that post via google searches like "how to become a creepypasta" and "being a creepypasta".

Now, I just titled the essay that because I thought it would be eye-catching, but apparently there is something fairly dark about the human condition at work here. Do these people want to learn how to write creepypasta stories, or how to get famous for creepypasta? Do they want to literally become Slenderman? Are they looking for cool cosplay ideas?

It's actually starting to freak me out. Who wants this and why are there so many of them?

On the other hand, I probably could write a how-to guide for writing scary shit. Anything can be quantified if you ask enough of the right kind of question...
