Apr. 7th, 2014 08:22 amGood morning all, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!
A quick update before we begin --
justice_turtle has arrived safely at a family member's home, and wanted to thank the Cafe for their help in the past month.
Ways to Give:
dreamwaffles linked to a fundraiser for Malia McCollister, who is trying to get to grad school for her MLS. Her university of choice requires her to take summer classes online before admitting her, and she can't get financial aid for courses where she hasn't officially been submitted. You can read more and help Malia pay for her courses here.
The Organization for Transformative Works, which among other things sponsors AO3 and Fanlore, are doing their annual membership and fundraising drive. A donation of $10 or more confers membership in OTW for a year, and there are perks for donating $50 or more.
News To Know:
iamshadow send a bunch of links for Autism Acceptance month, which we are currently in. Many people are boycotting the purchase of certain orgs which support Autism Speaks (you can find a list of those orgs here) as Autism Speaks has a history of silencing autistic people in the organisation and pairing with organizations that support abusive practices, among other issues. There is a good list of alternate resources to support at blogher. ThinkGeek is also selling a Neurodiversity shirt with proceeds going to the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network. While I can't actually recommend supporting Amazon.com, if you do shop there, they offer to donate to certain charities, including ASAN, when you make certain purchases there.
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!).
