May. 12th, 2014 06:26 amGood morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!
Ways to Give:
Jamie's friend's 4-year-old son was recently diagnosed with sudden onset juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and is already dealing with pain and negative impact. The family's insurance is fighting the $19K/mo medication he needs, so they have a gofundme up to raise funds. You can read more and help them out here.
mzxanther linked to a fundraiser for John Briesford, an English teacher in China who is in a coma after falling ill. His family would like to bring him home to the US, but the cost of his Chinese hospital bills and the air ambulance is prohibitive. You can read more and help bring John home here.
digitalwave is still selling lots of items (including cool handbags, books, memorabilia, and movies) to support herself and her family while they are under heavy monthly fees due to an ongoing tax bill. The feels leave them with pretty much nothing to live on, so this is their main method of support right now. You can see the list of what's for sale and arrange purchases here.
editrx linked to a fundraiser for the Fairelee Vermont Motel & Drive-In. The Fairelee is one of only two combo drive-in motels left in America, and need to go digital in order to survive. They're raising money for the expensive digital projection equipment to keep providing cinema services to the local community. You can read more and support the drive-in here.
Mark linked to an indiegogo for Darkness Over Cannae, an illustrated novel about Hannibal's defeat of Rome in 216 BC. They've surpassed their goal and are now reaching for a stretch goal. You can read more about the book and its perks, and support the project, here.
Help For Free:
Khayankh linked to
unofficialmcusurvey, which is running a survey about Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom. You can take the survey here.
News To Know:
iamshadow linked to The Autistic Exchange, a fic fest by and for autistic people/people with autism, where you write about autistic characters, characters you head canon as autistic, or characters you reimagine as autistic. The AO3 hub is here and the tumblr is here; tag nominations are open right now on AO3 for participants to nominate characters and fandoms for challengers to play with.
J.Miles linked to the United Church of Christ's "Religious Freedom for Gay Marriage" webpage, which advocates for gay marriage on the grounds that it is a suppression of religious freedom to forbid it. Interesting reading and a neat cause to support!
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!).
