Jun. 16th, 2014 07:54 amGood morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!
Thank you to everyone who helped test out the RFM form this past week. This is going to be very useful for me! Also whoever left the test entry from Thor Odinson made me lol super hard. :D
Corrections first:
Last week I mentioned a caveat on the fundraiser for
medievalpoc and since then more info has come to light which renders the caveat the likely product of misinformation (potentially deliberate harassment). You can read more about the entire situation in the comments here but I wanted to repost the fundraiser, sans caveat, in light of that information. My apologies!
medievalpoc is experiencing financial difficulty, and raising funds to keep the MedievalPOC site afloat.
Ways To Give:
sweetngenki linked to a fundraiser for Angelie, a young girl with selective mutism. The funds are to pay for travel to a research center in Pennsylvania and treatment at the center. You can read more and donate here.
girlingoldboots has had her hours drastically cut at work and is having difficulty getting aid benefits; she is in need of an immediate $300 to cover emergency costs but will need to raise more than that long term. You can read more and donate at her gofundme, donate directly via paypal at forfookssake at gmail.com, or check out her signal-boosting tumblr,
the-lady-clare.
owlpockets linked to a fundraiser for Debra, a young woman who is trying to get medical attention and treatment for her seizures so that she can get her life back on track. You can read more and donate here.
kaberett linked to a fundraiser for
rising, whose laptop has died. He has made many Dreamwidth themes -- apparently chances are good you are or have used one, if you're on Dreamwidth -- so this is a chance to give back in a very direct way.
taragreen89's sister Uma was accepted to the HARTT summer intensive, and won a partial merit scholarship but needs to raise $3675 to cover tuition/room/board. They have been able to extend their fundraiser with 68% raised; they are offering perks at their indiegogo fundraiser but are asking even people who can't give to share the campaign on Facebook, which could earn them a place on Indiegogo's front page.
taragreen89's sister Olympia, a photographer and visual artist, was recently awarded a two month artist residency with the Contemporary Arts Center at Woodside in Troy, NY. She has a kickstarter up here to raise $2K for residency fees and material costs, and you can check out her professional portfolio here.
etakyma linked to the Tomaquag Indian Memorial Museum, established over fifty years ago and dedicated to telling the story of Rhode Island's Indigenous Peoples. You can read more about the museum at their facebook page and read about how to support the museum here.
Help For Free:
brainwane linked to Double Union's feminist community workshop being held the evening of June 18th in the San Francisco bay area. It's for people who love gardening or want to help contribute to open source projects; there will be free food and tinkering about with Growstuff, a gardening software project.
digitalemur linked to EteRNA, a game where you...okay guys, I'm gonna admit I don't understand how the game works, I've tried multiple times to understand it over the past few months, but it helps scientists somehow, so if you can understand the game I believe it's quite fun AND helpful. :D
Fandom News:
claudiapriscus linked to the organizing tumblr for the Supernatural Day Of Fandom Love. If you're in the SPN fandom or just really like positive fandom experiences, check it out!
sanura is doing a show on June 29th, which will include her musical version of my own Eulogy for the Walking Dead! The show will be in Houston, Texas, and you can learn more about it or buy tickets here.
Just For Fun:
bare_bear linked to "Listen to Wikipedia", a site which translates Wikipedia edits into music. It's amazing and pretty soothing.
getlukinmusic has just moved to Wellington, NZ from London and is loving the city, but is having trouble making friends in the new big urban environment. She's looking for other fannish Wellington residents to meet up and hang out with! You can contact her at her tumblr if you're interested.
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can post items for my attention at the Radio Free Monday submissions form, in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!).
