Nov. 9th, 2014 06:14 amI am home and safe and healing, though this was NOT as easy as I expected. Still, I think I'm in the process of turning a corner.
I was prepared for a pretty quick recovery, given how fast I bounced back from gallbladder surgery, but I was in the hospital for longer than expected, and I'm in more pain than I was last time. Also, this is probably more information than anyone wants, but I am desperate to poop. Anyone who's had abdominal surgery will probably understand.
The last few days are a little blurry, but I remember yearning for a shower, and wishing that instead of bringing a bunch of clothes I didn't wear, I'd brought a humidifier. For a brand new hospital, the UCMC's new wing is somewhat lacking in basic conveniences like moisture.
I did discover lip swabs, though -- small sponges on sticks you use to moisten your mouth when you can't yet have liquids. I bonded with my lip swab. We might be married.
Last night I was genuinely worried I'd need to go back to the hospital, but mum dosed me heavily with hydrocodone and put me to bed, where I had super tripped-out dreams about the end of the world, but this morning I'm in a lot less pain. Either that or the apocalypse put it all in perspective.
