Nov. 28th, 2014 06:28 pmOne of the projects I set myself during my recuperation from surgery this month was a clean-out of my CD and DVD collection, and a conversion of most of my stuff to digital. I've nearly finished downloading, ripping, and otherwise acquiring MP3s of all these great albums I own that I haven't listened to in ages, and it's been quite a walk down memory lane. Some of the songs come, originally, from mixtapes given to me by girlfriends in high school, or soundtracks to movies I didn't even like but which had totally bitchin' music.
I've made myself up a new playlist for my workday commutes, of 200 "new" songs that are actually quite old. My bus ride's going to be like the mid-90s all over again for a while.
Other projects went more or less well; I got most of the fanfic I was working on finished, and most of the old un-archived stuff archived. There are still two solo fics unfinished, and one co-written fic that is still in the works because neither of us are capable of writing short stories, but all in all I'm proud of how much I managed to get done while sitting on my ass in front of the fireplace all month.
2013 and 2014 were both years of intensive work -- they were years dedicated to getting my shit together, fixing my medical issues and my housing issues and (inadvertently, to some extent) my work issues. 2015, I hope, will be the year I get to enjoy the last two years of hard work. I may finally get to spend at least a few months resting on my laurels before getting back on the treadmill.
As I get older, it becomes clearer that sometimes you just lose a year here or there to necessity, but hopefully there won't be another one of those for a while.
Knock on wood, anyway. I'll try not to be too happy; it tempts the gods, and as Charles Schultz famously said, happiness isn't interesting. :D
