Jan. 2nd, 2016 05:02 pmI went with my folks to Wimberley today, to the glassworks just outside of town. We've been trying to get out there since September of 2014, but we were thwarted variously by fire, flooding, and poor scheduling.
If you're within an hour or two of Wimberley, however, it's well worth the trip. We saw a great glassblowing demonstration, including how they combine colors in the glass and how they blow both short and long vases. The gallery is smallish but full of really beautiful pieces, and it's actually kind of a nice drive if it's not the middle of high summer. I mean, if you're not into glass there's not much else to see, but it's hard not to be into glass after watching the owner of the glassworks swinging a ten-pound molten chunk of glass around on a stainless-steel pole. And look how that turns out:

The origami calendar I'm working off of starts you out pretty simple, and today's is meant to count as tomorrow's as well, but I'll consult my bookmarks and find a design for tomorrow's. In the meantime, have a nightingale!

Instructions are here; note step four, the line terminates above the nightingale's "head", but in the actual fold it terminates below the head. (Basically, in step four, the left end of the line should be at the bottom of the triangle, not the top.) Have fun!
