Apr. 25th, 2016 08:39 amGood morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!
Ways to Give:
Anon linked to a fundraiser for a young boy whose entire family was killed in a fire recently. The funeral costs for the family have now been covered, but any overage is going to the survivor, who has lost essentially everything. You can read more and give to the GoFundMe here.
pinesandmaples is trying to pay for some vital dental care by selling supper plates in New Orleans (a regional traditional fundraising activity). If you're local you can pick up a plate of great food for $10, and if you're not local you can sponsor a plate for a local shelter. You can read more and purchase a plate here.
Shona is participating in a "rations challenge" this June to raise money for Syrian refugees living in urban camps near Jordan. Participants spend a week eating only the contents of a ration pack (Lentils, rice, chickpeas, sardines, oil, and beans) to raise awareness and money for hygiene and food parcels for refugees. You can read more and sponsor Shona's rations challenge here.
rilee16 is still struggling to cover medical expenses after two head injuries last year, and hasn't been cleared to return to work, thus can't earn money to cover basic living costs, let alone the bills they've received. You can read more and help out here.
editrx has been struggling to keep her indy bookstore afloat for this past year, and on top of her troubles there, she's now been the subject of a violent assault by her housemate. She's dealing with mounting medical bills and trauma from the assault. She doesn't have a new fundraising site yet, but funds from her ongoing YouCaring fundraiser will reach her, as will income from the Starcat Books online etailer. She also has jewelry for sale on Etsy. (Obviously if you're shopping her etail or etsy there may be a delay in delivery.)
Buy Stuff, Help Out:
dreamwaffles has a shop on Etsy, which is currently her only source of income while she applies for jobs. She's got cool beaded art and earrings for very reasonable prices; you can shop and purchase here!
News to Know/Help For Free:
Amelia let me know about the Illinois Contraceptive Coverage Act, which will provides better coverage and restricts denial for contraceptives in Illinois. You can read the bill in full here or NARAL's slightly less dense summary of it (it's a gif, so it may take a few cycles to read through it). Planned Parenthood supports the bill and has a form here for you to contact your state representative to ask them to vote yes on HB 5576.
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can post items for my attention at the Radio Free Monday submissions form or via email at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!). If you're new to fundraising, you may want to check out my guide to fundraising here.
