GPS says I did 4.23 miles, but the actual FitBit says I did 3.78. Given GPS thinks I can walk on water and run through buildings, I’m going with FitBit today.

Getting back up to four miles, which I had just barely hit in August, is proving difficult. There were three weeks in September where I basically couldn’t run at all – I had a knee issue, then I was sick, then I was at Disney (where admittedly I was walking over five miles a day, but walking and running are definitely different; on the other hand, that was a GREAT vacation). Add in the fact that I bought new running shoes last weekend and they’re like three times the weight of my previous shoes (plus are trying to correct my epic pronation when I run, which means my thighs are KILLING ME) and it’s been tough.

Also I wore wet socks most of yesterday, and like half the skin on my left foot peeled off this morning, so that’s a thing that happened. (It’s not a wound, I think it’s old blisters finally de-roofing, but the skin underneath is healthy and pink and doesn’t hurt, so I think I’m okay.)

Tomorrow night is my fourth 5K, the Rosehill Crypt Run, which is a candle-lit run through Chicago’s oldest and largest graveyard. This will be fun and not at all dangerous!

So, two weeks ago I interviewed with an institution back east for a possible job; it was a skype interview, and in terms of out-of-town applications, usually there’s phone, then Skype, then in-person if you make it past the Skype. And I thought I did really well! I normally make it to the in-person stage at least. And they told me I’d be hearing from them around the end of last week. And now it’s the end of this week. *narrows eyes*

I have two theories; one is that they’re interviewing everyone else first so that if they find someone they really love, they won’t have put me to the trouble of coming out to interview. Which is thoughtful, in a sense, though also nerve-wracking and kind of unfair. The other is that they’ve put me firmly in the “not hire” pile in their database, but until the job is fully closed (ie, until someone is hired) the database won’t send out the form rejection letters.

A third distant possibility is that someone on their end is trying to wrangle funding for me to fly out, seeing as how otherwise I would be covering it myself. But I feel like if that were the case I would at least have had a courtesy “We’d like to see you in person, we’re working on scheduling” email by now.

So I think for my own sanity I have to assume I didn’t get the job, and I’ll work on dealing with that over the weekend, along with the attendant intel it brings – I’m not rending my garments that I didn’t get it, but the amount that I did want it tells me I should probably keep looking, since I’m struggling a bit with the job I have. But we’ll see. At least I know now that I’m capable of leaving Chicago for a job, but it has to be the absolute right job. And regardless, I do have a job I like and that pays well, so there’s that at least.
