I like him dead, but I'm not fond of the "breakable" factor. It makes scientific sense but it limits him a lot as a character. Which in some areas can be helpful -- no eating, drinking, or sex -- but in others are going to limit his usefulness, especially with that one bad hand.

I'm going with a theory put forth by others in other comms -- hopefully sometime in the next season he'll run into some Nanogenes who can help.

Yeah -- Owen's grown on me, and whatever one thinks of him it's undeniable that Burn Gorman tears up his lines. He is potentially the best actor on the set -- Barrowman's got him on sheer talent, but he eats the scenery sometimes and Gorman may have more range on him.
