Wow. This is great and at least five degrees darker than anything else of yours I've read. I really love the way that Ianto's fight with the programming seems very real, the way he doesn't always know who's controlling him.

My only big problem with this chapter, possibly stemming from the fact that I haven't seen very much of season one, is who the hell is Estelle and what are these fairies Jack does battle with?

You're welcome - although I should have waited for Sam to provide his summary (below), which cuts directly to what's pertinent here, with fewer spoilers. (Sorry about those.)

PS Really nice icon there.

Naw, it's okay. I don't really plan on watching Torchwood anytime soon -- I mean, I might get around to it someday, but it's not on the list right now. And I skipped 75% of season one and probably something like 45% of season two to jump in and watch all of CoE, so ... *shrug*

P.S. Thanks! Feel free to yank.

The fairies are the Big Bad from Small Worlds, the episode that directly follows Cyberwoman. Ianto isn't in it much. Estelle is a woman fascinated by fairies, but Jack thinks fairies are evil (they are) and ends up having to sacrifice a young girl to them in order to get them to fuck off.

It's a hard episode for Jack, because Estelle is an elderly woman when we meet her, but she and Jack were in love in the early 1940s. She thinks Jack is actually the son of the man she was in love with, and then the fairies kill her and Jack is pretty ripped up about it. It's one of the few times we see him drinking alcohol.

Oh, okay, that's cool. Thanks for the summary! elainasaunt sent me a link to the Wikipedia entry on the episode, too.
