You can't hear me, but all morning long I've been sing-songing "Multitaaaaaaasking" under my breath.

Not that I don't normally multitask a bit, or rather -- no, it's not so much multitasking as sequence-tasking. I rotate through work. This morning, for example, I am clearing out my "things to examine" slush file on delicious and trying to catch up on my email backlog inbetween working on three different fanfics, correcting tweaks to CG, reading through the latest fic offerings in Sherlock and White Collar, and faffing about in my "daily reading" bookmarks.

And then there's work, but that's slow on the ground today, informative pamphlet about new security measures and mass email about "what you can do to prevent your packages getting stolen this holiday season" aside. I should never have let BossBoss discover that I can write coherently and break down complex concepts easily (necessary skill, because complex concepts and I don't get on).

I was going to say "It's not that I have a short attention span" and follow it up with an explanation of why I do this, but every explanation I come up with seems to point back to me having a short attention span.

It's finally cold enough out that I've unplugged the air conditioner, and in the evenings I resort to baking to keep the house warm. Today I made a thermos of tea, which doesn't really heat up the house but does keep me moving, and all morning I've been sipping shots of it from the cup.

It's herbal, though, so you can't blame my attention span on the tea.

Seems to me if it's "herbal" one can *absolutely* blame your attention span on the tea. Or was that not the kind of herbal you meant? :D

I have updated my Sherlock recs page (http://tzikeh.livejournal.com/589141.html) (you've probably seen the most recent stuff, since I email you with it, but you never know).

I could use some tea about now. :D

Baking and roasting are my preferred home-heating methods. :-D

(I task-cycle, too. I can't multitask- no one really can - but I sequential-task like a MOFO)

Oh my gosh, Sam. I had such a crazy dream about you last night.

I started a surprise comm that was supposed to be a present for you, but its official title was In Celebration of Sam and R Coming Out.

It was entirely meant as a joke, even had a disclaimer saying so and how we know Sam's straight. But I was with you in person (in your apartment, no less) to present it - and it was some kind of tangible representation of the comm, not on the computer. And you were very gracious about it, even as I realized how INCREDIBLY AWKWARD this was. Them you weren't quite as nice with someone else who demanded you write a very particular kind of fic, and that somehow reassured me you weren't really mad at me.

Anyway, I crept out, muttering how I was going back to the Cafe now (also, I had been sleeping on a mattress on your floor - your apartment was much more spacious than how I usually picture it). And when I woke up, I was vastly relieved I hasn't actually done that and never would.

Hahaha I've been baking like crazy the last couple days... unfortunately, it's not warming the open-plan house very well and it warms the kitchen at the wrong time-- like after my bread is supposed to rise instead of during lol. *offers you shortbread, sourdough bread, and apple crisp*

OM NOM SOURDOUGH *goes straight for that*

Ooooh apple crisp. Man I wonder if rhubarb is back in season yet, I make a mean rhubarb butter crisp.

I tossed some candied ginger bits in my apple crisp, it worked out really well if the emptiness of the pan at the potluck was any indicator :D

It's not a short attention span, it's time-efficient partitioning. Isn't that a lovely buzzphrase? I forget where I found it, but it sounds lovely in a presentation. "Let's all partition our time efficiently, people! We only get one second per second, make 'em count!" If it was only one syllable shorter, I could use it in a haiku.

I tend to assume the reason I multitask so well is my extremely short attention span. It's pretty handy. In a way.
