I have acquired new glasses! Kind of. Not really. I will have, in another week, when they come back from the lens lab.
My old glasses are perfectly fine, actually, and my prescription hasn't even changed (though the optometrist said I'm looking down the barrel of bifocals in another ten years, oh god) but the lenses are scratched to hell and back, which is what happens when you wear them through two Chicago winters, so I'm gettin' new lenses and frames that are basically exactly like my old ones except black instead of silver. I tried some chunky emo glasses on just to see if I still look like a douche in them, and yep, I still do. So, thin square frames it is.
BUT THAT'S NOT THAT INTERESTING. Origami is interesting! I folded a hummingbird today.

I'm pretty sure I messed up his ass, but I have it on good authority that hummingbirds don't care what their asses look like.

Date: 2011-04-15 01:59 am (UTC)Regarding glasses, my mom has health insurance that covers my dad and sister and I, so at the end of the year if there's still funds, one or two of us will get a new pair of glasses. (My sister has at last succumbed to our hereditary curse of bad vision, but only for reading. In contrast, I've been wearing them all day every day since I was eight.)
End result: currently, I have 4 pairs of glasses. One's red, one's light purple with bendy frames, one's black with rhinestones, and one's two-toned purple, and all of them are half-rimmed with it missing on the bottom because full frames make my face look extremely strange.
(also, AGH AGH AGH that vision/flash thing I had last week where I got a strong association with you, the dude was wearing SILVER SQUARE FRAMES okay I know other people wear them and you don't have curly hair but WHAT THE HELL.)

Date: 2012-08-19 04:36 pm (UTC)I know some comms will count any off-LJ link as auto-spam (there's a tickybox to fix it); I don't know about journals, but I wouldn't be surprised if they'd recently done something like that. :-(

Date: 2011-04-15 05:18 am (UTC)Except I don't think of them as emo, I think of them as fobby. And I hear they can be construed as hipster too.
...which came first, the emo, the FOB, or the hipster? A question for the ages.

Date: 2011-04-15 08:37 am (UTC)Mind you, my glasses choice usually comes down to the girl in the opticians going 'Right! No purple this time!' and plonking a series of frames in front of me until we find something we both agree on. For I am not safe to pick my frames by myself, especially because I fit kids frames and could easily end up going home with Angelina Ballerina down the side of them.

Date: 2011-04-15 09:04 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, I'm also in desperate need of getting my reading glasses replaced (since I wear them most often, but they're also about four years old). The lenses are very scratched but I can't find ANY frames that I like and I never liked the old frames.
And now, I've broken my big toe which will seriously hinder glasses shopping for the next week.
Yay hummingbirds!

Date: 2011-04-16 02:08 am (UTC)Bifocals, truthfully, can't be told from regular glasses now due to the fact that they've gone completely 'lineless'. I have freakin' *trifocals* and I love them to death-- they make 'em that are designed for heavy computer use, and my eyes don't get nearly as tired as quickly as they used to. They do cost more, but they're worth it. And I don't have to change glasses to drive or anything, they're good all-purpose specs as well; it takes a few days to get used to them but honestly? They're wonderful.
