I've been putting off trying to fold the Lotus because when the website tells you "You should have a BIG piece of paper to practice with!" you know trouble is ahead. Especially when the first significant fold of the piece is a sink fold, because sink folds were invented by some minor demon to torment enthusiasts of the gentle origami arts.

Good thing I'm demon proof, because the Lotus is AWESOME.

Oooh, That's definitely my favourite so far (not that they all aren't awesome, but still, LOTUS.). :)

That's the one used as a calling card in "Blind Banker", right?

Huh, you know, it probably is? I haven't rewatched that one like I have the other two, but I'm pretty sure.

IT IS COMPLETELY AND WITHOUT EXCEPTION AWESOME

You're almost making feel an inclination toward this bizarre artform.

I am only partially demon-proof it seems. I have gotten as far as step 14 and I have no idea what it is asking me to do. :(

Yeah, a lot of the later steps on this one are like "Do something inscrutable!" and they leave you to sort of figure it out from the next diagram.

Wow, that is beautiful. :D It looks like a mathematician's poem to a flower.

Beautiful!

Did you happen to see "Body of Proof" a couple of nights ago? The deceased investigator did origami for his 8 year old daughter, and the clue which uncovered his murderer was folded up inside an unfolded origami. Dana Delaney's character re-folded it and gave it to the daughter at the end of the show. It was sort of a balloon that blew up into a flower (now that's a description, isn't it?).

I don't think I've ever even heard of Body Of Proof, but now I want to see this episode! *slinks off to torrent*

I am also intrigued by this origami object - thought it might have been a sunflower, but i still have not come across anything that looks close. Did you find the name of the object yet? or the pattern?

i guess it was a sunflower but...

i saw that episode and i also have the same question. first i thought it could be a lotus. but now i think it might be a sunflower. the thing is the sunflower i know needs 2 squared sheets. according to the show,Dr. Hunt opened a rectangular piece of paper. maybe that was just for the scene but i dont know. i really wanna know what it was. you gotta tell me if have a clue^_^!!

I wonder if that fold is actually a real fold. I've been fucking around with it and I can make a flower with a bulb in the middle with four petals, but not with eight, like in the show. I'm not sure how one would do that.

The awesomeness of that lotus is clear evidence that you're demon-proof. Next time one of my appliances starts acting possessed, I'm totally tracking you down to exorcise it.

I do kind of feel like I should hang it up along with my bullet-inna-balloon as a ward against demons :D

I have seen Because The Origami *nods* It's...um, well, it's an extremely well-done and vivid video, but "sweet" is not the word I'd use. I found it utterly depressing.

Ooh, pretty! Not the lotus fold I'm familiar with, but just as lovely. Then again the one I know is a napkin fold and probably not possible with normal paper, unless maybe it was wet or very thin.

Late to the party, I know, but I prefer this:

http://www.origami-fun.com/origami-lotus.html (http://www.origami-fun.com/origami-lotus.html)

It's much easier to fold and I like the look of the the finished fold more.

Yep, I've got that one bookmarked in my Origami file! Though easier is not always preferable, in my book :D
