This is the day that never ends. I'm working an event tonight, which does make me feel like Ian from Charitable Getting, except way less useful because I'm here twenty minutes early and my job tonight is mostly to stand around uselessly until something goes wrong.

Things go wrong in real life less often or amusingly than in novels.

The bartender is nice, at least? He gave me a coke and offered rum to go with it, but drinking at this particular event is a spectacularly bad idea. Talking to the internet is slightly less soothing but much wiser.

Hail Caesar! We who have social anxiety salute you.

Nullus anxietas, Sam! It'll be fine. And if it isn't fine, at least it might be entertaining? :D

Says the guy who just recently had a ball bearing emergency in the midst of some sitcom-worthy miscommunication and missed connections involving The Crush and the Wacky Sidekick.

And somewhere on Facebook is the WackySidekick/TheCrush slashfic fan page.

....you make a point which is difficult to refute.

I'm confused. Who's Copperbadge's wacky sidekick, apart from the entire Internet?

BossBoss in this case, but R most of the time :D

Why, BossBoss of course! It's a bit tricky because technically he's Sam's superior and so not immediately associated with 'sidekick,' but he kind of serves the same purpose in the plot, as the protagonist's non-romantic liaison and source of comedy and banter.

hang in there!! I know I'm much happier at these things when I'm the one handing round the nibbles or pouring punch than figuring out how to talk to actual people!

hope the only problems weight on the side of amusing!

Or at least an amusing way to tell.

"At least this will make a fun story for my readers." I say to myself as the dog decides to eat the television and the cat makes an escape for the great beyond. [1]

Sort of. More like 'Oh shit, the outside has grass! STILL!' ::hides under bush::

There's a copy of Animagus Winter Nameless for sale at Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/Nameless-Sam-Starbuck/dp/B004JCQAKO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1307148852&sr=1-4).

Hey, Cafe, drop on by and give it 5 stars! Maybe someone who doesn't know Sam will decide to give it a try. I'm all for making new Sam-converts wherever I can.

Yeah, Lulu has a reciprocity deal with Amazon. On the one hand I don't like to support Amazon, but on the other, I do like selling books...:D

Thought you'd like to know...

I loaned my copy of Charitable Getting to a friend, and she LOVED it. She said that she couldn't put it down, loved the characters, and would have gladly read an entire series about them.

I asked her when (and if) she correctly figured out who Non-Prophet was. She admitted that she never did guess correctly. When she asked the same of me, I admitted that I had Ian pegged from the beginning, but that I had an unfair advantage since I recognized Ian as your alter-ego in the book.

I've since given this friend a link to buy your books.

Aw, I'm glad! Give her my regards :D (Your remark about a series about them inspired a discussion about a sequel: TOO FAST TOO CHARITABLE. :D)

Ave, Caesar! Nos habemus sollicitudinem rei socilais, te salutamus!

(I realize this is unhelpful, but the Latin geek in me simply had to post it... you know, in case you need it in future...)

And when there is more, it's generally much simpler to get away from.

On the other paw, it's easier to dissect and mock and they can't punch you

I hope the event goes/went well! And that you made it home okay.
