Here is a list of things which happened to me today.
-- received a bill for $300 because insurance wrongly declined something
-- received a notice from the government saying they were knocking $50/month off my student loan payment
-- Aforementioned job interview and burning bridge
-- Coworker Crush, who was in Italy, returned! She brought me an Italian Kit Kat bar. Yeah, I don't know.
-- Got stopped by tourists and asked for directions three times on the way to
-- Trader Joes, which I SAVAGELY raided and summarily conquered
My favourite tourist question of the day was a man with three kids who very hesitantly said, "Excuse me, are...are we on Michigan Avenue?" I assured him that he was, directed him to the Lego Store, and welcomed him to Chicago. His kids are going to fleece him for more Legos than they can carry, I predict.
The reason I stopped at Trader Joe's was that Mum is sad they won't be building one in Austin after all, and wanted to share the glory of TJ's with her coworkers. So I bought four kinds of cookie and a bin of toffee nuts to send to her, per her request, along with some bread and salami (I had a hankering) and some "Lacey Cookies" (chocolate-dipped florentines, basically) for myself. Nothing makes you want cookies like buying FOUR BOXES of them for someone else.
The cookies did not go unremarked.
Checkout guy: Having a party?
Me: Stocking up for the end times.
I have had a very long day.
