Good morning everyone, happy Memorial Day, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!

Ways To Give:

[personal profile] rising has a friend who is raising money to take Deon, a young boy who has hypophosphatasia (a form of brittle bones) to Disneyland for his 10th birthday. The money will go to cover medical costs and transportation, among other things.

Help with Housing:

[livejournal.com profile] neveralarch is moving to Minneapolis for grad school and looking for housing near the UMinn campus. You can find more information or offer advice here.

Emily is moving to Worcester, MA at the end of July. She's looking for advice on finding housing, as well as vets in the area and any other info folks want to pass along. You can find more information or make contact here.

News To Know:

One Million Moms, a conservative "pressure group" dedicated to sucking the fun out of life, is going after comic books for depicting homosexual relationships (among other things). According to the article, Joe Quesada has said that the most hate mail they get is over sexuality issues. So if you like comics and you support the inclusion of LGBT characters and storylines, you might drop 'em a line to counteract some of the missives from scribbling bigots. (If anyone has info on how best to do this please let me know and I'll put together a post or RFM blurb about it.)

Nice Things Happening:

[livejournal.com profile] taffimai has a ticket available for Don't Dress for Dinner in NYC.

[personal profile] thatrainbow is running a project where he collects wishes from people and turns them into paper stars. His post is on tumblr but he has anonymous "asking" turned on so you can leave a wish there.

Just For Fun:

[livejournal.com profile] nieseryjna linked me to an awesome Doctor Who "mini-sode" written by kids as part of a Blue Peter contest.

[livejournal.com profile] ljgeoff has found the most awesome birthday card ever.

When times get tough, remember: nobody can take away the porn you've already read.

And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!). Remember, brevity is the soul of RFM.

Commenting here because the 'contact' link on the page didn't work for me:

Has Deon's interested party contacted Disney at all about this trip? They frequently go out of their way to welcome kids with serious illnesses to the parks. I will ask around when I get back to work tomorrow as I know several people at the studio have hooked friends-of-friends up with this program.

If you hear anything, feel free to let me know or leave it here, and I'll make sure Rising gets it back to her friend :) I didn't even think of that, but you're totally right!

Hi! I'm the person trying to get Deon to Disneyland.

If were were local to southern CA, they'd have a few different programs that could help us. They were very friendly and offered a lot of advice about once we're at the park, but they didn't really have anything they could do to help us get there. The only other suggestion they had was to contact Make-a-Wish. (Which I have done, but as good as they are, they're not necessarily... timely, and there's a mountain of paperwork, including needing medical release of information, and so forth.)

The biggest prohibitive factor we have is the airfare. Just getting from here to Anchorage and back is about $1000 per person. Add in the flights to LA, and you can see the problem.

Thanks for thinking outside the box!

Ok, good to know you've looked into it. I figured they probably wouldn't be able to get you down here but there was a possibility they might make your stay easier once you're here.

For next week's RFM: There is a Kickstarter going by a teacher to fund what looks like an awesome role playing game system for students, teachers and parents to encourage learning.

Aw, thank you!

That cartoon totally made me LOL. I'm going to think of it the next time someone is being a douche to me.
