I did end up locating and watching the chronologically-arranged Marvel Movierverse film cut this weekend.
It's an interesting way to watch, no doubt. There are some great segues; the very first scene is the prologue from Thor which ends with "It was Asgard who brought peace to the Nine Realms" and then immediately jumps to Captain America, which opens with Nazis assaulting a church during WWII. One of the other really strong segues is the end of the Hulk film, with Bruce Banner's eyes popping open as they turn green, and then a cut straight to the end of Captain America, with Steve's eyes opening in close-up. I had a few quibbles about where Hulk scenes fitted in, but nothing overt. It also included the "Consultant" deleted scene I'd never seen in full, which makes the Tony Stark cameo at the end of Hulk make sense for the FIRST TIME EVER.
I wouldn't recommend the nine-hour recut for anyone watching the movies for the first time -- Thor and Hulk are both stretched out in such a way that it makes it a little hard to track the plot -- but the judicious use of deleted scenes, especially for Hulk, makes it much more watchable as a film, it's true. Taken as a whole, it was a good time. Plus I cracked up when the first "INTERMISSION" screen appeared. I love it when movies have intermissions.
So yeah. Nine hours, five movies, and I didn't have quite the staying power to get through Avengers as well, but it's not like I haven't seen it a few times already.
Also, if you enjoy Sam Explains Comics for the learnings and not the banter, I did a post over on Tumblr detailing the terrifyingly dysfunctional Ultimate Comics romance between Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff. Complete with Natasha's hilarious spiderweb undies.
ALSO: crackfic.

Rating: PG
Summary: Steve had body-modesty trained out of him in boot camp, and apparently his attitude is infectious.
