I did end up locating and watching the chronologically-arranged Marvel Movierverse film cut this weekend.

It's an interesting way to watch, no doubt. There are some great segues; the very first scene is the prologue from Thor which ends with "It was Asgard who brought peace to the Nine Realms" and then immediately jumps to Captain America, which opens with Nazis assaulting a church during WWII. One of the other really strong segues is the end of the Hulk film, with Bruce Banner's eyes popping open as they turn green, and then a cut straight to the end of Captain America, with Steve's eyes opening in close-up. I had a few quibbles about where Hulk scenes fitted in, but nothing overt. It also included the "Consultant" deleted scene I'd never seen in full, which makes the Tony Stark cameo at the end of Hulk make sense for the FIRST TIME EVER.

I wouldn't recommend the nine-hour recut for anyone watching the movies for the first time -- Thor and Hulk are both stretched out in such a way that it makes it a little hard to track the plot -- but the judicious use of deleted scenes, especially for Hulk, makes it much more watchable as a film, it's true. Taken as a whole, it was a good time. Plus I cracked up when the first "INTERMISSION" screen appeared. I love it when movies have intermissions.

So yeah. Nine hours, five movies, and I didn't have quite the staying power to get through Avengers as well, but it's not like I haven't seen it a few times already.

Also, if you enjoy Sam Explains Comics for the learnings and not the banter, I did a post over on Tumblr detailing the terrifyingly dysfunctional Ultimate Comics romance between Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff. Complete with Natasha's hilarious spiderweb undies.

ALSO: crackfic.

Someday I'll have to look for it (in my copious free time). I'm already a fan of watching the Star Wars films in Machete Order (http://www.nomachetejuggling.com/2011/11/11/the-star-wars-saga-suggested-viewing-order/): IV, V, II, III, VI (yes, Phantom Menace is totally left out) so this sounds very interesting.

I still haven't seen any of the new ones...

Where does one find such a thing?

(This is one of those times where I should Google first and ask second isn't it?)

If I may specify for my own sake: where does one find such a thing if one does not torrent?

Ah -- then you're essentially out of luck. I'd toss it on my gdrive for you, but it's 13gig and the limit on Gdrive is 5.

That's higher than our monthly bandwidth allowance! (Not that I would DL it anyway, but still.)

If you don't torrent, I'm afraid you're out of luck; if you do, you can download it here:

http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/7671920/Avengers_Initiative

Beware, it's large, and the download time is long.

In this case, Google wouldn't help -- I had to put a bounty out on it, someone else found it for me. The torrent download is here:

http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/7671920/Avengers_Initiative

I'm afraid there's nothing but torrent for this one, you can't really get hold of it anywhere else because of the size (13gig).

Do you need special software to download/play a torrent?

Yes, sort of. I used to have a guide to how it worked, it looks like that was lost in the hack. But basically you download the torrent file, then open it in a torrent program, and the program downloads the video files using the torrent file as a guide.

It's weird. I really wish I had the guide I wrote, I'd send it to you.

Basically, you have to have a torrent client (I recommend uTorrent http://www.utorrent.com/). Download and install the client, then go to the Pirate Bay link Sam posted above, click the magnet link that says "GET THIS TORRENT". If uTorrent isn't already open, it will open itself and ask you where you want to download the torrent to. Pick a place on your computer that you don't mind 13GB of movie landing in, and click OK. It'll then start queueing and downloading.

If you click on the torrent you've downloaded so it goes blue, you get a bunch of data about it showing up in the bar below, including a graphic representation of % downloaded and % available. The more available, the faster it downloads. The more people who are signed into one torrent client or another and have that torrent as well, the more available there is. If you load uTorrent any time your computer is turned on, the torrent will start downloading some more of itself until it's done. It runs in the background so you don't need to keep an eye on it.

I hope this helps!

There's an intermission? Review Guy never mentioned an intermission! Oh, fandom. :D

I am thrilled to hear that it is worth the time, though, so I will definitely be d/ling it, come the next time I'm visiting my family.

The small amount of Phil/Clint I've read so far seems to be nudging me back towards White Collar - there's at least one I read recently where if you took out the violence and changed the names, it could have easily been a very believable Peter/Neal dynamic.

Date: 2012-10-09 10:45 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] copperbadge.livejournal.com
It's much the same dynamic, yes, though Clint's a little more uppity, I think. :D And of course their missions are less "Must we really face down the men with guns?" and more "MEN WITH GUNS! FUCK YEAH!"

I watched the nine hour cut over the last two days, and I really, really liked it. It may become the way I actually watch them from now on. I liked Thor so much better when it was intercut with the other films, and I could see how Hulk would be pretty boring on its own, but it was interesting in little bite-sized pieces. I loved him making a centrifuge from an old bicycle and a record player, that was ace. And the Coulson bits! I had read little bits in fic about the gas station short, but it was so awesome to actually see it, and to see it in the context of when it was happening in relation to Thor and Iron Man 2. Watching Avengers again now!
