Good morning everyone! Happy Christmas to those that celebrate it. And to those that don't, you have my sympathy on multiple levels.

Last night I was given the traditional New Pyjamas; I've stopped even bringing pyjamas when I come home for Christmas because I know I will be given some. I have more pyjamas than I know what to do with. But these are admittedly the softest, fuzziest pyjamas ever. It's like covering my legs in baby seals.

I gave my entire family blankets (among other things), mainly because the dog tends to destroy blankets and I can't get them "better manners for the dog". It's a pain to wrap.

Mum went all out at Rotofugi, my favourite collector's toy store, because I introduced Emmy to it and she went bonkers over it like I did. Sixteen years between us but we still manage to be nerds about the same things, which is either terribly heartening or just terrible depending on how you look at it. Anyway, I got a Rotofugi authenticated Helper Dragon and a couple of other baubles, and Emmy got like, A FLEET of the Tokidoki unicorns.

But the big prize was the new messenger bag Mum got me, a replica of the old vinyl Pan Am bags that are getting popular.

AND. AND.

DEAD ISLE FANFIC!

Thank you, Yuletide. :D

GUYS SHARE YOUR SWAG. LET'S COMPARE.

Now you know you're a real author! Well-deserved!

Also, my swag: new granddaughter (let's see somebody top that!), half of new computer (husband has the other half, fortunately in the same room),a water pump in an African village, and a trip to see the new granddaughter! More Christmas tomorrow, when I get there, but today was Bismarcks (the fluffy egg kind)with maple syrup, Mexican hot chocolate with chilis, and listening to the whole Messiah.

I can't think of Roombas without thinking of that hilarious Avengers fic where Tony tries to get out of doing chores by buying fifty Roombas, giving them a hive mind, and teaching them to fly....:)

Merry Christmas!

Oh, if the Pan Am tv series hadn't been cancelled so soon, I know I'd've ended up with one of the those bags for stealth fannishness. Spy hijinks in mid-century mod clothes, how I miss you.

Quiet year for us, I got a Transformers Prime Vehicon robot, a mini-bottle of Davidoff Cool Water eau de toilette and a bottle of Revlon Gold Coin nail polish.

That's some awesome swag! I got a new wok (I hated the old one with a passion) and two DVD's. How to tame your Dragon and Brave. Watched Brave immediately, it was awesome! And I sense a Scottish-sounding theme here...

So far I got new dice and a sweet leather dice cup with Elvish writing on it, an owl mug, a coffee-table book of fashion history, and a BUILD-YOUR-OWN DESK LAMP KIT. (It's wood! You punch out the bits and screw them all together and put in the cord and then you have a lamp! I love building shit!) I know I have more gifts coming, but honestly it's going to be pretty hard to beat that lamp kit.

-Two books, one promising-looking and the other somewhat less so.
-Gloom: the card game where you try to give your characters unhappy endings.
-Purple fleece which I will not wear most of the year, but I really don't care because it is insanely soft
-A couple of nice christmas ornaments from my boyfriend's aunt who I think had no idea how to shop for me
-A cloth sandwich bag because my mom did half her christmas shopping at the ecology center

Nice variety, nothing too weird or useless, and so far everything I've gotten people has been well-received. A good year.

A bright pink, quite enormous sweater smelling faintly of cigarette smoke (my great aunt is a generous if rather hit or miss gift giver)
Several bookstore gift cards.
A couple of promising looking books
A very lovely scarf
Bookmaking supplies (awls, waxed thread, pva glue, etc.)
New and interesting books about bookmaking
A paper-making workshop

So far, gift cards for Target, Michaels, and Starbucks, Pitch Perfect (the book the movie is based on), amazing mushroom soup mix, a shark fin tea infuser, and a giant crystal to hang in my window and make rainbows. Tree presents still to come after lunch.

I got a bright red bathrobe, which is good because I've been wearing a ratty old hoodie in lieu of a bathrobe for the past year or so. Also the SO and I ended up giving each other the same present, so I have to go back to the mall tomorrow and return one of them.

Let's see...so far I've gotten the following pressies:

From my BFF and her husband - a gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous book of medieval illuminations, and an 8G Lisa Simpson flash drive that will comfortably fit everything I've written with lots of room to spare.

From my dear friend Tracy - two pair of stunning rosewood knitting needles, a funky little CD of classical/bluegrass fusion starring Yo Yo Ma, and an "I only date superheroes" mug.

From the muses - a day where I wrote 2500 words on a pinch hit fic for an exchange.

From the Triple Felinoid - group-greetings and some dirty looks when I didn't feed them enough.

From my company - a $25 iTunes gift card, which I've been using to purchase Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Billie Holiday, and L'Arpeggiata songs.

Still to come: gifts from my friend Mal (we're exchanging Friday when we go up to Stockbridge to the Alex Ross exhibit at the Norman Rockwell Museum), and presents from my apprentice and my choir director (Sunday at practice).

Best of all, I have a job I love, co-workers I respect, a family of choice that is my rock and support, a roof over my head, food in the pantry, and decent health. *Those* are the things that matter, and I thank God every single night for them.

Merry Christmas Sam and the Cafe!
While waiting for the ham to cook I will post my swag. I received Supernatural season 6, a genuine black Belvedere Vodka bottle that had been recycled into a vase, a Star Wars and Firefly comic book, earplugs, a black leather bag, and some candy. I did pretty well this year. :D

For Christmas I got First World Problems (my parents bought me three books, two of which are awful and one of which may be okay, I'm scared to check - and all three are massive hardbacks, it's like they've never heard of weight restrictions), a very pretty Newbridge Silver* necklace, asecond desk calendar (I never use them), and a bespoke bracelet from my brother. Also quite a bit of money. But the best present was getting to spend some time with my family.

Oh, and a goat. I got a goat.

*Not actually silver. I think it's silver-plated nickel?

Dude! I feel ya. I got two books that are novelizations of Tudor history. Now I love and adore Tudor history but I hate getting novels of the time period because the novels are (almost) always about the same two events, so I prefer getting actual history books. I know I've told my aunt this at great length, yet she got me these books anyway and I just don't know what to do with them. I really want to return them to Amazon and get something I want....

Le sigh. First World Problems.

I got Gloom, too! (And I am a cheap date, so I am amused at my own sentence.) I also got three expansion packs and am looking forward to getting enough players together to make use of them all.

And a necklace from etsy from an RFM posting. Thanks for the linking!

The most fun parts were all my kids' gifts. There is a vast amount of bouncing a first grader will do over matching Science and Space Encyclopedias (DK books are highly prized in this house). Between those and GearWorks (a Tinkertoy Expansion Pack, essentially), my geek-raising is going well.

You do the traditional Christmas Eve pajamas too? People always think it's weird when I tell them we do that.

Also, somehow after all these years, my parents haven't figured out that when they ask what I want for Christmas and I just say "books", it's not that I can't think of anything. I just want books. Yet all I get are two, including one I already own...

Welllll, saying "books" is kind of like being asked "what do you want to watch on television?" and answering, "a channel". I mean, I hope you gave them some guidance. There are a lot of books in the world...

1) I got Fossil swag (purse, iPhone cover, and iPad cover [for when I buy myself a new iPad for reaching weight loss goals that are within my sight])
2) A Dalek ornament (to complement the Tardis ornament I received last year)
3) A pad of Doctor Who post-it notes.

I deem today an all around success.

I'm stuck in a mining camp for Christmas, but then I just started the job on Dec 13th, so it's almost like I got a career for Christmas. Go me! (After being unemployed for 8 months - you bet I wasn't complaining about working over the holidays.) Anyways, the staff did everything to make everyone's Christmas in camp a good one. We've had lightening-fast BINGO and games last night and tonight with lots of prizes, really good Christmas dinners, and we all had sample bags filled with a nice company toque and all sorts of goodies hanging on our doors this morning. Of course, Geology (where I work) wasn't too pleased to see a couple hundred sample bags go missing (we need those!), so hopefully they'll make their way back to us eventually. (But we're trying not to be scrooges about it. :D)

Happy Christmas, Sam and Cafe!
