Good morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!
Ways To Give:
nancylebov linked to a fundraiser for a friend who is on SSI disability, and having trouble paying the bills for herself and her teenage son. You can read more and support her fundraising here.
mythologian was just placed on unpaid furlough at work for a few weeks, and is having trouble covering her bills (she's just had major dental work done). You can read more about her shop at its Facebook page, and help out by purchasing from her Etsy store.
taragreen89's sister Olympia, a photographer and visual artist, was recently awarded a two month artist residency with the Contemporary Arts Center at Woodside in Troy, NY. She has a kickstarter up here to raise $2K for residency fees and material costs, and you can check out her professional portfolio here.
karadin linked to a fundraiser for the Stanley Theatre in Wisconsin to upgrade their projectors from 35mm film to digital. Many studios have stopped making film prints entirely, and digital can be expensive to upgrade to. The Stanley hosts dollar summer movies, free holiday events, and programs for students with disabilities; you can read more about their donation drive here and give at the kickstarter here.
greenapricot linked to Art For Water, a New England non-profit that brings public-participation art installations about water and global water access to museums and schools across the US. They are raising money to create a virtual version of their current physical art installation, Stream of Conscience. You can read more and support the fundraiser here.
Help for Free:
tealin is looking for a room to rent in London or Cambridge starting sometime in July. You can read more and get in touch at her Dreamwidth post here. (I will personally vouch for her character, she's awesome.)
staranise is looking for a poly-friendly psychotherapist in the Washington DC area for a friend. You can read more and offer your suggestions here.
Help for You:
sanura's non-profit textbook publisher is looking for a good HTML5/CSS3 web developer. They're looking for local if possible but will pay relocation and apparently telecommute is also a possibility. You can read more and apply here.
Anon linked to Dash, a web tutorial for learning HTML, CSS, and Javascript through projects you do in your browser. They linked specifically because after a few projects it offers to teach you how to style your own Tumblr page.
Just For Fun:
Anon linked to Longform, a site that collates good examples of long-form journalism. They thought we might especially enjoy the archive on con men. :D
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can post items for my attention at the Radio Free Monday submissions form, in comments here, or via email at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help (or ask for help!).

Date: 2014-06-23 04:47 pm (UTC)Fundraising for SSI beneficiaries will lead to complications with disability payments if they are not reported to SSA. It is a slippery slope, but this may result in overpayments and the need to pay SSI back... cash is not a good way to assist, especially for rental payments. That's what SSI is for (room and board).
