I've been teased, before this time, because occasionally I pay for fanfic. I've bought the odd Buffy novel, I still own one Star Trek TNG novel ("Masks", ironically enough) and I picked up both Nero Wolfe continuance novels second-hand, though I just as quickly let them go again.

I managed to get The Italian Secretary for free because I traded in books for it, and it's true that it is above-average fanfiction, but even Caleb Carr can't help fanboying Sir Arthur Conan Doyle just a little. Spoilers, of course, behind the cut.

maple_clef and I are having a discussion about fanfic in comments somewhere, and I thought I'd translate it into a post about fanfic.

Now, these are only my opinions, as always, and certainly there are no hard and fast rules in creativity (if nothing else, Drabblewank '04 taught me that). This is just stuff I think about other stuff. Yeah.

Stuff I think about. )
