And the old Evolution versus Intelligent Design (Biblical Creationism) debate has once again caused HARSH WORDS on the museums mailing list I belong to because someone posted an article about George W Bush supporting ID in schools (I gotta get out of this country).
I'm beginning to suspect that career areas are just like fandoms, only more lucrative and not as interesting. We seem to be settling out into three factions:
The Evolution/Science shippers, who say that ID has no basis in rational fact and are rather like the canon whores of fandom. The nicer ones say that ID should, perhaps, be allowed to be taught in a religions course, much like kind canon whores will allow that just maybe Remus and Sirius are getting it on like bunnies behind the scenes.
The Free Speech/Education shippers, who while not supporting ID* think it should be considered as a viewpoint in educational institutions because otherwise HOMG CENSORSHIP. These are like the people who have a favourite ship but write it rather badly and occasionally get featured on Summary Executions for declaring their fanfic OOC. I wish I were kidding, but really, their leading speakers are not giving them a good name.
And then there are the STFU YOU HORS THIS IS A MUSEUM MAILING LIST trolls, who are of course the people like Watchful, declaring themselves governors of fandom morality.
I myself stand silently in support of the more liberal Evolution/Science shippers, but I'm not gonna make an icon for it or anything. :D
* Nobody on the list, it would appear, supports Intelligent Design, which is why this wank is so amusing. I myself support Moronic Design, since only an idiot would put a playground between two sewers.
