So I tried to watch Saw II last night.

I didn't find the original Saw terribly inspiring or disgusting or anything, really. The violence was pretty graphic (I fast-forwarded through the more gory bits) but aside from that it didn't leave much of an impression. I watched Saw II mainly because I wanted to see if it would answer my one curiosity, ie "Will they milk another sequel out of it" (it did). Hollywood does so love a trilogy...

But I got about a third of the way into it and realised I was checking the time-elapsed box on the DVD program every few minutes. The movie was boring -- it was basically an Escape The Room game where I couldn't play along, and while I admit to a sekrit passion for Escape The Room games, the fun is in the playing, not in the watching shallow idiots play. )
Sam's Three things about CSI! Better late than never.

And get used to it, o gentle readers, because I just swapped out my scoring shifts from the eight hour day shift to the four hour swing shift, starting in March. The upside is that I will have time to look for a real job and I can still fix dinner for the fam. The downside is I won't be there for dinner, or CSI, or House, or NCIS...

Fortunately there are communities for people like me, people whose families hold the policy of "if you aren't here you can't tape anything". So I can download, belatedly, and still keep up.

1. Wow, three minutes into the episode I totally see why people were all "This exceeds acceptable levels of TV squick". OMG EYEBALLS. What were they thinking? The level of thought that goes into this show seems to fluctuate violently by episode. The one thing I do have to say is that I didn't see most of the twists coming, which is a nice change. Then again, when the twists are totally RANDOM, like an EVIL TWIN....

2. Oh Greg. Did you catch the Nick's Bad Hair disease? What's up with the "I don't bathe" look? It didn't work for Matt on Seventh Heaven, brother, it won't work on you.

3. I know a lot of people think the ending was rushed, but I have to say I loved the moment when Grissom grabbed the whip. Their relationship has always had an uneasy power balance because of who they both are, and to see him pull her back was...sort of splendid, in a way I can't really put my finger on. I suppose it was a reversal of sorts.

3a. Dude, what was up with all that 80s pop playing at the Olympics opening ceremony? (sorry, but seriously.) Also, Americans, I know you have a duty to represent your country, but you could at least pretend to represent the dignified parts and not leap around in front of the cameras like monkeys on crack. You don't see Canada doing that, do you? That's right, and also Canada had hats that did not make them look like they were wearing muffins on their heads! YOU COULD LEARN A LOT FROM CANADA.
Britons texting St Valentine's Day love messages next Tuesday should be careful they don't send them to the wrong person.

A poll of 3,000 mobile phone users that found 40 percent will be texting rather than sending cards and that one in four have misdirected a provocative text or photo. Recipients of the unwanted texts include bosses or colleagues (9 percent) parents (3 percent) and perhaps most embarrassing of all -- ex-partners (2 percent).

Okay, aside from the omg awful tackiness of text messaging your valentines, I'm sorry, but sending a dirty picture to my parents would be WAY MORE EMBARRASSING than sending it to the ex who took the picture.
