Aug. 13th, 2006 07:58 pmMum: I was reading this book I got from the library, about attitudes, and did you know when Colonel Sanders died at the age of ninety one they found a card with a list of goals in his breast pocket?
Sam: Well, he didn't even start KFC until he was in his sixties... [thank you, Alton Brown]
Mum: No, the point is, you should always have goals.
Sam: That's a good point. I mean, what kind of goals does a ninety-one-year-old have? What was written on the card?
Mum: The book didn't say.
I CALL BULLSHIT. The Colonel is quoted a lot in inspirational literature precisely because he was a senior citizen before he made his KFC fortune (though they generally neglect to say he'd been a successful businessman and restaurant owner for decades). And the goal card is a nice story, but it reeks of apocrypha, especially since inspirational literature generally doesn't have to cite sources.
If someone can bust out an image of the card, or the text at least, I will concede the point, but until then I am highly skeptical.
Though in googling for this information I did come across someone whose blog is entirely devoted to their goals, and one of their goals (achieved!) was to eat KFC in Kentucky and leave a bucket with some chicken in it on the Colonel's grave.
