Commentary post-hack: Apparently the cake "winning" is in reference to a poll that I did which is now lost. Alas.

Well, the cake won out -- which actually startled me, I was expecting the Gallery of Regrettable Food to be much more popular, certainly not dead last. I was looking forward to trying Benedictish Frankwitches! But, I will make the cake, and once it's tested I'll post the recipe.

Unfortunately, nothing exceptional will be cooked today, or potentially for many days to come. Mum called at 1am last night in a flat panic over the state of her rapidly declining uterine health, so this morning she's going to check Bernard into his dormitory and then leave without even waiting for Lucky to arrive. While Lucky helps Bernard unload and settle in, Mum is to go directly to the Emergency Room and have a blood transfusion, then an IV estrogen drip, then evaluation for an emergency ablation. So we don't know when she'll be home, actually, and I need to stay put to be Home Base. I may need to go over to the ER and pick her up.

So, yeah.

My life just needs a warning label: All plans subject to change and cancellation without notice.

So, I'm not at the Emergency Room, because Mum saw sense and also Bernard unintentionally stalled her. He didn't get checked into his dorm until Lucky was already more than halfway there, and they didn't finish moving his stuff in until well after Lucky arrived, so Mum quite wisely let them do the heavy lifting while she rested. She and Lucky got some lunch and just arrived home. She says she's feeling much better, which of course is a new excuse not to get the surgery they've been telling her she should have for the last five years.

Commentary post-hack: It is now October of 2008. She goes in for this surgery tomorrow. Supposedly.

Anyhow, no ER trip today, but tomorrow she'll have to go in for at least an ultrasound and likely a transfusion. So, I'm cancelling my dental procedure and taking her to the doctor instead. Don't know how much I'll be around...
