Oct. 12th, 2006 09:44 amOkay, guys, this is going to sound like a really dumb question, but how the hell do radiators work?
I've unfastened the little "twist this way to open" knobs, but nothing seems to be happening. Does the landlord have to turn it on somewhere? Is there a switch I should be flipping?
I've never lived in a place without vented heating before, except in Boston where I lived from May to August when there isn't much call for indoor heat. We had radiators at school in Oregon -- I used to dry my coats on them -- but they were controlled by a central thermostat. It's not that cold in the flat, but the key appendix to that phrase is "Yet". :D
I called New Office today and spoke with an extremely nice young woman who was baffled as to why they hadn't called me back. So now I have an appointment with Apple One tomorrow (they had to bump me) and New Office on Monday.
And the online scoring place told me to start scheduling shifts next week. So...I kinda have a job. Right when I didn't need to have a job, because I'm...looking for jobs.
Oy.
By the way, for those of you who were interested in the work-at-home online grading, you can find more information at www.ets.org/reader/osn/ (it's running slow right now, fair warning). Click "Online Scoring" on the left-hand side. Most of the organisations do want you to have some experience in education, but it can't hurt to apply. :) This site is on the level, unlike most "work at home" schemes; it contracts you to a service that scores state and federal testing.
ETA: Okay, they appear to be warming up now. They're clicking and pinging, anyway.
