Sam's Three Things about Studio 60, comin atcha.

1. WHO LET MATTHEW PERRY'S STYLIST DO BRADLEY WHITFORD'S HAIR?

2. I'll admit that I'm a fan of Sting. I own most of his albums and really don't care that he's pop or that his French in La Belle Dame Sans Regret is apparently really bad. And while I was totally going to comment about how cool it was to have him on the show, Suzanne the Wee Neurotic PA stole my heart and Sam's Second Thing. In part because I could see myself -- have seen myself, as a matter of fact -- doing something that stupid, but mostly just because I'm a sucker for hero-worship. And I like that Tom took the fall for her. 'Cause Tom can get away with things that a wee neurotic PA can't.

3. I love Cal, but where on earth does he get his intel? He's boss of the control room and head of tech, but that's not exactly the first person you run to with the hot Entertainment-Weekly-worthy news that Jordan McDeere didn't bid on a new reality show. Oooh...maybe he has the place bugged.

3a. One of the small details I like about the show is the attention to the sets and the way it helps create the fictional universe of NBS. I love fictional worldbuilding -- anyone who has encountered Ellis and his novels can attest to that. If you watch episode...three, I believe, The Focus Group, you'll see a number of posters for NBS shows in the background of the focus group's room, and a series of former NBS logos in one of the lobbies later on. In one, Jordan is walking down the hallway after the pitch session -- there's a poster behind her of a doctor who looks suspiciously like Dr. McDreamy from Grey's Anatomy, and it's titled "ATTENDING".

I cracked up.
Wow. Whoever told me to try Apple One temp agency, I need to make you a nifty icon or something. Remind me who you are so I can bensch for you. :D

I had my second of three temp agency interviews today (tomorrow is my last) and I was way more impressed with Apple One. The very first thing my new "supervisor" turned up for me was a permenant position with an educational not-for-profit institution, including benefits and a salary that is about ten thousand more than I had hoped for. We revised my resume to account for the job's requirements and she's going to put them in touch with me by Tuesday of next week. Also, they have a computerised typing-speed test, whereas New Office had me on a typewriter that didn't even do automated carriage returns. I unreservedly recc Apple One to anyone looking for a clerical/admin position. Just think, by the end of the month I could be a wage slave!

I'm home at the moment but I'm scheduled to take a few online qualification tests, so I won't be on much this afternoon. On the plus side, my CO/Smoke detector arrived today, so I am now safe from death by improperly-repaired gas oven.

Also, I love my postman. He knows me and says hello if we pass on the street and he delivers the mail at a civilised hour (one-ish, rather than 7pm as in Austin). When I apologised today for all the boxes he's had to deliver he said "Nah, keep 'em coming, they pay me to do this." I shall get him a gift card of some sort for Christmas.

I left a bowl of milk by my back door for the pixies yesterday evening. I know, my life is so full of bizarre mysticism. BUT CLEARLY IT WORKED.

In closing, there is nothing creepier than seeing an ad for McDonald's cheeseburgers with a skeleton clinging leeringly to the "69 cents!" price banner at the bottom. I took a photo. Viva la Friday Photo Update!
I just scored 110 wpm on my typing test.

EAT THAT, NEW OFFICE.

*scuttles off to take tutorials for other tests*
OH THE IRONY.

My smoke-detector arrived today and I hung it near the door around noon.

About fifteen minutes ago the super knocked on my door with a bucket full of smoke detectors at his feet. "Reinstalling!" he said cheerfully, but as I'm not nuts about having my super banging around in my flat at six-thirty at night, I showed him the one I'd bought and sent him on his chirpy way.
