Well, I managed to meet up with Mr. R today and take a look at the apartment he's willing to share. It's absolutely amazing -- beautiful building two blocks from the El, fireplace, laundry, gigantic kitchen, heat/air/water/gas/electric/cable-internet included, back porch, and two doors down from where M lives. He seems nice, friendly, quiet, fairly accomodating and understanding -- his mother holds the lease and he pays her his portion of the rent, which is larger since he has the larger room.
There's only one problem, in fact: it's $300 more per month than I'm paying now.
Now, when you consider, it's not actually $300 more than I'm paying now. If I'm not paying gas, electric, laundry, or internet, it comes down a trifle in price. And I'd rather pay more for a short-term lease than pay less but have to pay it for a full year. Mum's willing to kick in part of the rent, but I don't want that to be any kind of long-term solution. So, for right now we're in the Considering phase, and I'll call him tomorrow night to let him know what's up.
Because housing drama is boring, have some CSI Of The Day, where Greg has just discovered that Nick took Archie to investigate a crime scene at a dot-com instead of him:
Greg: "Look, I thought we had a relationship. What're you doing taking Archie out in the field instead of me?"
Nick: "Right tool for the right job, man. You have to understand the world you're investigating. Hey Archie!"
Archie: "Yeah?"
Nick: "Hey, what's that Star Trek episode where the guy's got the forehead thingy, and the time portal..."
Archie: "What, in classic, TNG, DS9, Voyager, or Enterprise?"
Greg: "Point taken."
Archie: "Or were you thinking about Farscape?"
