So! I test-drove the dutch oven today. The lid may need more scouring; heating it highlit a few places I wasn't thorough enough. But, on the whole, it did very well:

Gorgeous. It's crackling as it cools.

It's a lovely day out, so I've had the kitchen door open while I've been baking, looking out onto the street below. Crazy Awesome Irish Super came round yesterday, randomly, and asked me how everything was and told me that we had a few empty units, so if I knew of anyone who wanted to move I should spread the word. I almost asked him if they had any units on the second floor, but I realised I like my little eyrie -- I like my kitchen door and bay windows that face the street, my bedroom window with its view of Graceland cemetery and the El tracks, my freaky architecture that means I have two front doors. I really honestly like this flat. I'd prefer more counter space, and the bathroom plumbing is elderly at best, but compared to most other flats I've lived in this is really nice.

Though I am deeply tempted to see if I can get into the flat next door, which I suspect used to be part of one big flat with mine before they were subdivided. I wonder if it's unlocked...
