May. 12th, 2009 09:49 amI am feeling much better this morning; the painkillers are making me thickheaded but I have significantly less actual pain than yesterday, and can get around mostly without a crutch. I can bend my foot enough to actually get it into the splint-boot without assistance, too.
People asked if I'd post photos of the broken leg, so here's one to start you off....
They gave me my X-Rays on CD. THE FUTURE IS NOW, and it is AMAZING!
Today will probably be spent catching up on email and flist reading and other things I've let slide, being with family as much as I have. I'm hoping to prod Mum into taking Emmy and me to Jerry's Art-o-Rama, which is an awesome art store in north Austin. I'm thinking of steampunking my boot, but I'm not sure how just yet, other than decorating the uprights and trim with copper tape. I'd put some gears on the ankle "joint" (it's not a joint at all) but gears aren't easy to find. I'd like to make the straps that hold the boot on look like leather, but not sure how other than trying to stitch some splits on, and not only do I not have any split sheets with me but I don't have the means for sewing leather.
This is what the boot looks like, side and front (those are not photos of my leg, btw. And the second boot has crisscross straps on the foot, which mine doesn't). Suggestions for cheap and easy steampunkery appreciated. I can't really get out of the house much, but I can get to a decent art shop here and once I'm home in Chicago there's a hardware store not too far away.
Oooh. I could make fimo gears...
