Canine Flu

May. 13th, 2009 01:01 pm
I often bring Max up to keep me company while I muck out Myfanwy's nest, since he helps tidy away any little scraps of offal that she may have missed. It keeps her occupied if she has something other than me to play with while I'm putting down new straw and sprinkling some grit for her.

I noticed he wasn't quite his usual enegetically evil self, however, so when we got back down I decided to run him over to the vet. They aren't worried but they'll keep him overnight for observation and give him lots of fluids, and we can come pick him up in the morning. I've already double-checked that our veterinarians are not aliens, cannibals, or fans of Sweeney Todd. And it's very unlikely they'll have to do anything like surgery or removing anything vital or any routine procedures dogs normally get at the age of four to six months.

I reactivated the bug in his collar, just in case, so if any of the other dogs bully him we'll hear about it and can track down their clearly incapable owners and stun-gun them somewhere vital. I informed all the surrounding dogs of this fact, so they should leave him well alone. Now I just have to keep Jack from Freaking The Fuck Out.

Clearly I am developing Stockholm Syndrome, as I already miss Max despite his evil ways.
I am not dead!

I am, however, spending most of my time either asleep or stoned. I've done some laundry and packed to leave, and iced my foot and set up a PeaPod delivery for Friday to R's place, but mostly, yeah, sleeping or stoned. My poor family is putting up with an awful lot of long pauses while I look for the right word. Sadly, one of the words I've apparently permanently lost is "orthopaedic" which is kind of a major word to lose when you have a broken limb.

I've been trying for two days now to make an appointment with a foot-and-ankle doctor in Chicago, but nobody lists their specialty and the last guy I called was in WILMETTE, which they didn't tell me (their address is listed as downtown) until I was done giving them all my info. I have to make some more calls about it tomorrow but if anyone happens to know a good foot-and-ankle doctor in the loop, for the love of god, give me a name.

I did manage to make an appointment with a chiropractor, because my back and legs are already killing me from the limping. I am so thankful for health insurance. Somebody remind me in November to be Thankful For Health Insurance in an official kind of way.

Um. Tomorrow I leave for Chicago. That's pretty much it. Hope you all are well...
