FOODIE POST.
I had a PeaPod delivery tonight which included, among other things, bacon and fresh eggs. This is the most delicious and convenient way to make bacon, thank you Alton Brown:
Line a cookie sheet with foil and then a few layers of paper towel. Place a cooling rack on top of the paper towel and cover the cooling rack with bacon. Put it in a cold oven and set it to heat to 375F. Bake for 30-45 minutes, checking occasionally, until cooked.
It comes out incredibly crisp, and most of the fat renders off so it's not half as greasy as pan-cooked. Cleaning is a pain, but it's not any more of a pain than cleaning out a pan and wiping down the grease on the stove. While I did that, I whipped three eggs with a bit of sugar and soy and poured it into my wide griddle pan and made
tamago.
I will make rice tomorrow, and roll it with spinach leaves, tamago, and bacon to make BREAKFAZUSHI!
I might add bleu cheese. The only problem with oven-cooking bacon is that it's so good fresh from the oven I tend to eat a lot of what I make.
Point of interest, I have split my "cooking" tag into two categories: Defining Foodie, my ever-constant grasping at the appreciation of food, and Recipes, which are actually recipes for the things I cook.
I noticed today that I was walking a lot easier -- I can get through a revolving door without shuffling ridiculously -- and I'm less cranky and scattered. I got a shitload of work done. I've been tumbling over in my head what I'd like to work on next, writing-wise, and I've narrowed it down a bit. As interested as I am in writing the companion to Nameless -- not quite a sequel, but set in the same universe -- I'm more interested in two other things: editing Dead Isle and working on my Genderfuckery Space Opera (technically it's called Anize, but I like Genderfuckery Space Opera better). I'm not sure if I'm going to do both concurrently, or focus on one or the other first. Then there's fanfic of all sorts. We'll see what tumbles out. I do think that for Dead Isle, when I do publish it, I'll do it in paperback format rather than the larger 6x9" format I used for Nameless, since it's a bit more of a pulp than Nameless. It needs a lot of work.
Still, I'm not going to push anything. This week has been a struggle, and I suspect I will continue to have difficulty for a few weeks to come. It's not quite the same as when I broke my wrist; it's a different set of stresses, a different kind of coping. It's an adaptation, just like anything. But I'm doing okay.
Gotta finish the SteamBoot this weekend too. I won't be able to put the logo on it until Monday, but I can foil the other buckles, figure out what I'm doing with the typewriter keys, and work on a fix for the rivets on the heel that keep falling off. I'm really proud of it -- when I look at it sitting in the corner it
looks antique. It's neat. :)
