Jan. 14th, 2010 10:51 amOkay guys, I have a confession to make:
I've been seeing other novels.
I didn't mean to cheat on Valet of Anize. I wanted to work on it, even though I was at a sticking point. But on December sixth, at three in the afternoon (I know this, because I have the email that started it all) I was seduced. Seduced. By a little story about a webinar.
So I wrote, thinking it would just be an amusement, a brain break. And I wrote. And I wrote. And it turned out this story had a plot. And so I had to write some more. And on December 29th, at eight in the evening, I sat back and said "Whoa" and it turned out I'd written a goddamn novel. And it wasn't Valet of Anize.
Don't get me wrong, I'm going back to Valet, because I love Carry and Leigh and the rest like whoa. But you have to run with the ball you're thrown.
This is actually a book that in some ways I've been wanting to write for five years: a story about blogging and internet fame and the ways we use and misuse those things. Five years ago this story wouldn't have worked, because blogs weren't very well known, but now they've sort of...mainstreamed. So it was possible, and I did it. It's a good book, and it's out of character for me; there's not a single magic mask, transformed dog, steampunk pirate, or spaceship in the lot.
Anyway, these are all reasons that I'm going to give this novel the Extribulum treatment and set it loose in the world, and then I can get back to Carry. What do you guys say, are you up for it?
( Blurb: Philanthropy in the twenty-first century is a game... )
New chapters will be posted every other day at
