I was Up Early this morning! The whole flat smelled faintly of tomato and beef, but that's not really an unpleasant thing.

I woke up early mainly because I had an awesome dream I had to write down. I was on a date and I was explaining a book I was writing to my date, but the brilliant thing is that I remember, mostly, the plot of the book, and it makes sense. Which is unusual for dreams.

It's not my normal sort of plot, it's very navel gaze-y -- it's about jealousy and how sometimes the things we do are as much to assuage our feeling of envy as they are to achieve our desired goal -- but I'm sure I can fix that when I eventually get to this one. I have to finish the CG edits, get back on Valet of Anize, and edit Dead Isle appropriately, but it'll be fun to spend the next few months gnawing around the edges of this in my head.

I am having a very efficient if very busy morning; getting a lot of stuff done that got put off last week due to last week being a goddamn disaster. This week should be 100% more awesome. I hope.
[livejournal.com profile] amand_r has joined me in the ranks of [livejournal.com profile] tw_itallchanges Virtual Season fanfic-writers with a hilarious study of how Jack's immortality sometimes affects his team. YAY.

If you're not following the VS, all you really need to know is that Owen's replacement, Dr. Megan Muli, is a very...thorough researcher. In Mandr's own words, Eat the crack. It's like pop rocks. and please enjoy For Science (and the Lulz).

Which I am totally chuffed she used my title suggestion for. :D
So, a while ago I got twenty Dreamwidth invite codes and I thought, I really should post that essay about Dreamwidth that I keep putting off.

Of course I didn't, because I'm a coward, but then I got my account-expiring notification on [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller on LJ, which, well, nicely forces the issue. (PS: do not buy Storyteller paid time. No rly. See below as to why.)

This is a kind of a weird essay; it's not really two parts. It's an actual essay followed by a sort of discussion prompt. But I have to put both up together for either to make sense, so.

Essentially, the thing is this: I want to migrate [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller to Dreamwidth, including all the comments. Not mirror; migrate. I want my fanfictions off LJ entirely. But I do want to make this really really really really clear: NOT MOVING COPPERBADGE. It's staying right where it is. It is mirrored on Dreamwidth, but I have no plans to migrate it at this time. Just the fanfic.

The reason I want to move the Storyteller archive is that I am tired of LiveJournal's crap. And I can't leave LiveJournal, this is where the cafe is and many of my friends are still only on LJ. I use some of LJ's features not yet available on Dreamwidth. I am encamped in LJ. But LJ as a platform is kind of full of shit, and there is some property I can move from LJ to Dreamwidth, and I'd like to do so as much as possible.

So first I'm going to talk about why Dreamwidth is not only more ethical but more ideal for my archival purposes, and then I'm going to talk to you a little bit about how both you guys and I feel about this.

Why I Am For Dreamwidth. )

As ever, in comments, remember that you are a member of the Cafe and have its reputation to uphold. Be civil, be thoughtful, and be honest, and we should have no problem with wank. :)
I must say I'm pleased with the afternoon's work. My pulled pork sandwich came out truly excellent, I got a bunch of stuff done at work, and the overall reaction to my Dreamwidth Suggestion seems to be positive. I do truly want to hear if people have issues with it, and I have heard some, but I also have to admit I'm pleased that people have said my fic is worth going over to DW for. It's a heady sense of power. DANCE FANDOM DANCE.

Nah, I'm joking. But it is nice to see. And you have all given me stuff to chew over in the next two weeks while I work out what precisely to do.

For those who were wondering about Hair Reactions (ahahahaha) most people did a double-take but thought my new black hair looked good. BossBoss thought I was a temp. He came up to the desk all "Hi! Is Sam out today? Do you need OH HELLO SAM."

It was awesome. He did not, alas, ask me if I had Regenerated.

I got an email from Mum yesterday; I'm going home for Mother's Day this coming weekend, and she sent me a schedule of what we were going to do, which is mostly cooking and movie watching. I did LOL at her plan for my arrival on Friday:

10pm Friday: Pick Sam up at the airport. Then we will visit Jack for noms.

She means Jack In The Box, which is kind of a treat for me since they don't have them in Chicago, but I couldn't help picturing something else entirely.

I had other stuff I wanted to tell everyone about but I forgot it on the train ride home so it can't have been too vital.
