Jan. 31st, 2011 08:20 amGood morning all! It seems like way longer than a week since I have done Radio Free Monday, but I guess it hasn't been. LONG WEEK WAS LONG.
Anyway, here we are, and I have to start with this because it's SUPER AWESOME: Kath and Shadow are auctioning off "character bears" based on people in my books to help with Australian flood relief.

The "Lucas" bear from Nameless is especially compelling -- check out his mask! -- but there are also Jack and Ellis bears from Dead Isle, Bo and Ian bears from Charitable Getting, and a Christopher bear from Nameless, as well as original felted characters (omg Skully). You can look, ask questions, and bid at the banner link. Proceeds go to charity! You know you want a bear with a banana.
Activism!
An anon on last week's post let me know that Asacol HD (used to treat Ulcerative colitis) has gone up from $50 a month to over $600 in the US, without any advance notification to doctors or patients. I googled about this and found this letter with more information. Anon also provided the email address of Waner Chilcott's CEO Roger Boissonneault: rboissonneault@wcrx.com. If you or someone you love uses Asacol -- as my brother and mother both have, at times -- this is something you may want to stay on top of.
Helping Folk Out:
Jen let me know about
jest, whose flatshare is running out and who is currently perilously close to not having somewhere to live for February. She's looking to connect to people in Edinburgh who can either provide a place to crash or know of a flatshare she could get involved in.
A member of the cafe let me know about Taylor Hartwig, who was paralyzed from the waist down in a sledding accident -- the same day her father lost his job. There are medical bills and their home is not wheelchair-accessible; there's a donation page here, if you can give, or if you can pass along the news.
Cool Stuff We Do:
One of the cafe has a book out! Check out Suffer The Little Children at Torquere Press, with an interview by the author here.
One of the cafe (a different one) is judging the Uncommonly Good Writing Contest. It's a free-to-enter contest; the grand prize is a publishing contract from Whispers Publishing. If you have a story or novella between 15k and 25k words, check it out! NOTE: I didn't investigate thoroughly and that's completely my bad; be aware that guidelines include a restriction against homosexual pairings, and make sure you check out the publisher thoroughly before you get involved. Thanks guys.
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com (PMs are kind of a bad way to reach me). If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help. Remember, non-embedded links are love.
