So apparently Fimbulvetr is coming.

Ordinarily when the weather panic-button gets pushed, people run out and stock up on food. The most common things to buy are eggs, milk, and bread, stuff people eat a lot of I guess; this has led to a long-running joke about the "french toast panics" which I never heard in my life until yesterday and since then have heard an average of three times an hour, I swear to god.

Why yes, the storm does look like a large penis. I'll leave the "we're fucked" jokes to all of you.

In the meantime, why not entertain yourselves with some mug shots from the 1920s, courtesy of the Sydney, Australia police department?

I think B. Moody is my favourite. He looks like a gangster who's well aware they ain't got nuffin on him.
It has been subtly hinted to me I should let you guys know I'm alive. :D

BossBoss sent me home at 3 today; he says I have to come in tomorrow if the trains are running, though. The good news is, I now know that my Dalek hat and my Watson scarf are blizzard-approved! Also, I have milk, eggs, and bread. And hot dogs. So, all four food groups!
I suppose I could have just held off on that last post and included it in the origami post. On the other hand, you guys knew I was spammy when you friended me...

Yesterday's origami calendar was a fox, which was less intricate than I thought at first (I tried to do something all fancy with the helmet base). His tail wouldn't hold a crease, because it's like eight thicknesses of paper, so I gave it a bit of a petal fold with the result that he looks like a fox with an exhaust pipe.

VROOM VROOM

Today's was a cicada, which is like...has anyone ever actually seen a cicada? Do we care about paper cicadas? No. So I folded instead what Origami Club calls "A Fish's Cake Case". That's a fish case for holding cakes, not a case for holding fish cakes. Though I suppose you could use it for like, fish fingers, or really big ones for a fish and chips order.

Go ahead, make the blowjob jokes now. God knows everyone else who saw it sitting on my desk did.
Roll call and head count, cafe -- while we're hunkering down here in Chicago, a gigantic cyclone is prepping to hit Australia. People are fucking fleeing this thing.

So, you know what to do -- if you need help or can give it, or you're looking for information or people, drop a comment -- if you're on Dreamwidth, you may want to head over to the LJ mirror of this post. Consider the post a messageboard for you all, use as needed. There's emergency info at the link. If you are in Australia but not affected, consider giving blood or other assistance -- no doubt you know better than I would how best to help. Feel free to drop links in comments.

Good luck, Queensland.
