This morning, a guy showed up in my lobby with a huge cart full of surprise free bagels.

They were a surprise for someone who isn't actually here today, so I had him set them up in the kitchen around the corner and then sent out a mass email about the surprise free bagels. Apparently these are the closest thing you can get to a New York Style bagel outside of New York. I can't confirm this; I've never had a bagel in New York, though now I feel like I should go there and have one just so I have a standard against which to judge.

As a breakfastfood they come off a little masochistic. I gnawed my way through one, and it was pretty tasty, but I don't want to put in that much work to chew my food this early in the morning. Also I suspect a company whose only shops are located in a) downtown Chicago and b) Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I mean that's an interesting diversity of locales, but also kind of baffling.

Then again, I took a Sudafed this morning. Everything is baffling to me right now. I looked at my to-do list and thought, that's nice, all I have left to do today is some writing. And then I thought, wow, writing is hard.

So I'm doing the Super Easy Sudoku and staring out the window instead.
So far this week I have tried and failed to read both The 360 Degree Leader by John Maxwell and A Pickpocket's Tale by Timothy Gilfoyle.

In the case of A Pickpocket's Tale, I don't think it's Gilfoyle's fault. It's just that it's not the history of George Appo, 19th century New York pickpocket, so much as it is "a history of George Appo and everything he ever came into contact with". He spent three months in juvie on an island once and we were given a history of the island. I never wanted to know as much about pre-civil-war Sing Sing prison as I currently know. It's all interesting stuff and well-written, but it's not why I wanted to read the book. I felt like I was drowning in obscure 19th century social doctrine.

The 360 Degree Leader is probably an awesome book to read if you're about 20 and starting your very first office job. I kept thinking it would get more complicated or informative, but I was pretty sure after 50-60 pages I could have written that book, and didn't really need to read it.

And I wouldn't actually write it. Because writing all that stuff down is oh my god boring.

As evidenced from the above, I am a little cranky these days. I finally figured out it's because I'm nervous about the job, which I haven't heard about yet. You'd think someone could tip me a wink or something. I'm beginning to worry I'll find out I didn't get the job when they ask me to set up building access for whoever did.
This snail might not look like much, but it is the best thing to come out of today.

I have the feeling you're supposed to use a bigger piece of paper, and possibly wet-fold it. I did manage to pull one of his antenna off, just a little, but I think it gives him a nicely quizzical headtilt.
