This has been a rough week. Really it's been a rough two weeks, but the last few days especially. Father's Day is not a day I traditionally cope well with, though at least this year there wasn't the MASSIVE ONSLAUGHT of marketing like last year (I wasn't the only one who noticed, so I know I'm not crazy). Also I've been sore from massage therapy and the massive pressure changes in Chicago have been bugging me.

My traditional response to both pain and anxiety is sleep. Because when you are asleep, nothing can bother you, and it gets you that much closer to whatever horrible thing you have to get past before you can go back to being normal. So I have slept a lot this week. You know that sleep debt scientists say we all have? I think I've paid mine off, because I woke up at five this morning WIDE AWAKE. And since my grocery delivery will be here by nine, possibly as early as seven-thirty, I figured why try to go back to sleep?

So I got up and dyed my hair black. Well, I had the hair dye and some time to kill...
I have not been awesome with the origami this week, but I plead mitigating circumstances. I did get linked by [livejournal.com profile] tinnuial to a neat Polar origami page at the Peabody Essex Museum website, and while I bypassed the hilarious icebergs, I did get a kick out of the RIDICULOUSLY COMPLICATED polar bear:

Not to mention the ONLY SLIGHTLY LESS RIDICULOUSLY COMPLICATED narwhal.

That twist on the horn was my own addition.

Peabody Essex Museum, you are my favourite random incredible museum located in a tiny tourist town.
Going to the grocery store with R is always an adventure. Somewhere in my conversations-with-r tag there's an account of us attempting to use the self-checkout and mostly failing due to his affection for chicken wings. He's a lot better than he used to be, though.

This time, we blitzed Jewel-Osco. WE CONQUERED IT. We were in and out within twenty minutes, with chips, salsa, pizza, and beer, and R ran the entire self-checkout all on his own, which made me very proud. We stocked up because we're having an afternoon movie party -- Jim Henson's Storyteller Greek Myths and A&E's Nero Wolfe.

At the moment, he's on the phone with a buddy of his who's doing a concert with him next time he's in New York. They're talking outfits, and I just heard him say "I can do a vest, but I don't think this is the time for bow ties."

Meanwhile, on the TV, Orpheus just played a chick out of a tree, and I'm pretty sure R is thinking he has to get out and play harmonica in the forest more.
