Good morning all! Happy fourth, to those celebrating, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!

Ways to Give

Luthe let me know about the Animal Welfare League in Chicago, who this past week had their A/C stolen. They've received assistance in getting new temporary units installed, but still badly need financial help to get a permanent solution (and some new security measures) put in place. You can find a donation page here.

[livejournal.com profile] ruisseau linked me to April's Army, a sort of RFM-like branch of Regretsy which helps out people in need. This month (through tomorrow) they're selling stuff to raise money for Katie Cowen and her family, who have had a hell of a year.

On Thursday night, Chicago was blasted with a hailstorm that did a lot of damage. Most notably, as [livejournal.com profile] tzikeh linked me, Garfield Park Conservatory (a free-to-the-public facility supported heavily by donation) has had thirteen thousand panes of glass broken and is closed indefinitely as a result. They need to get the place cleaned up and laminated hail-proof glass installed (the laminated glass already installed survived the storm). You can find their donations page here.

Fans Helping Fans:

[livejournal.com profile] tellitslant is looking for a new flatmate in Brighton, UK. Full details are here. Help me keep up my stellar reputation as a flatmate-finder, guys! :D

[personal profile] niqaeli linked me to [personal profile] siria, who is trying to provide educational materials to secondary schools in Tanzania. She's not raising funds, but is looking for recommendations for supply companies that don't fleece on shipping.

News To Know:

[personal profile] brainwane let me know that Wikimedia is hiring, BIG TIME, and not just for technical positions. While they prefer SF Bay Area residents, they also seem open to hiring remote employees. Wikimedia is (added bonus!) a not-for-profit, and I hear through the grapevine that they're a very supportive and specifically woman-friendly work environment.

[livejournal.com profile] teaforbryony has an informative post here about community health centers and how vital they are to the wellbeing of those without health insurance -- and how they are constantly under threat. It's a long post, but if you want to help there's a handy "How We Can Help" heading near the bottom you can scroll to.

Just for Fun:

I should have linked this ages ago, but [livejournal.com profile] sanura has set one of my poems to music as a recital piece. You can find the final recording and awesome montage here; the poem you can find at an earlier RFM post here. I'm so pleased, I can't even tell you guys. :)

Of interest to those of us who follow museum news and White Collar: [livejournal.com profile] ataralas let me know that the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, a place very dear to my heart, has recently made restitution in the case of a painting looted by the Nazis in WWII.

[livejournal.com profile] axeslade linked me to PlaceKitten, a service that provides kitten pictures of all sizes for use as placeholders in design and layout. AWW. KITTENS.

[personal profile] pearwaldorf linked me to a classic origami model that can always use another look: the currency koi.

I found "How to Create A USA Show In Six Easy Steps" the other day, and LOLed my ass off. I'm okay with gentle fun being poked at the "sunny skies" policy USA openly admits to having because, on USA, very rarely is my favourite character brutally murdered. And I have yet to see a baby melt in its mother's arms on any USA show.

And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can always post items for my attention in comments here (or on any post) or email me at copperbadge at gmail dot com. If you're not sure how to proceed, here is a little more about what I do and how you can help. Remember, non-embedded links are love.
I HAVE GUESTAGE!

And my guests brought me a cheese danish. KARMA WORKS.

It was a really good cheese danish, too!

We are back at my place now. We were supposed to go to Andy's downtown to get frozen custard, but first I got us lost (because I've only spent THREE YEARS working in the area...) and then the mall was LOCKED. Who closes a mall on the Fourth of July? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS TOWN.

If the past is any indication, tonight we should be able to see at least three separate fireworks shows from my living room window. YAY FOR KABOOM.
