Oh god I went back to Suits. It was just supposed to be a fling!

But I have been watching it, and I spent most of last night puking and everything hurts, so Three Things is about what I'm qualified for just now.

Just for brief context: Suits is a new USA show, which means yes it will never be very serious, and yes it is basically a two-boys-bantering show, but they have some really strong female characters too. It was being described as a kind of White Collar clone, and the character relationship structure is similar, but that's basically where it ends.

Quick overview: Harvey Spector just made senior partner at his very prestigious law firm, so his boss Jessica makes him hire an associate to do his bidding. Harvey is kind of a sociopath and doesn't actually want an associate, which in a roundabout way is how he ended up hiring Mike Ross, who is a pothead who got kicked out of college, a genius, a smartass, and a guy who took the Bar and passed without ever going to law school. Harvey makes Mike stop smoking up, sends Mike to his tailor, and lies to his entire company about Mike's origins. The conceit is that Mike is young, naive, and emotional, where Harvey is older, cynical, and uncaring.

I...do not understand Bret Easton Ellis's Glamorama.

I don't understand it in the way that makes me want to take some kind of college lit class in his work, because I'm sure I would understand it if someone would drop a few hints about it to me in a lecture. Because the thing is, Ellis's earlier books were about the eighties, and the transition into the nineties, but Glamorama is firmly rooted in mid-nineties culture, which is the time period at which I was coming of age. So it is, if not understandable, at least sort of...familiar? Which is why it's so frustrating that I don't get it.

Final Verdict: At least, if I don't understand it, I am vindicated by the scene where Tammy tells John Galliano he's crazy. Because he is. He is so crazy.

Also Ellis is a tease for giving us half a paragraph about Patrick Bateman. Just, you know, to let us know his crazy ass is still around in the mid-nineties.
